Profit, how do Japanese view this word ??

Interested after looking up the English dictionary definition.

As it’s clearly turned into a monetary term for most and yet it was never meant that way.

I know the Japanese have some beautiful ways of seeing these things sometimes so wandering if anyone on here has any insight?
