I'm getting close to potentially buying a 2021-22ish single motor Polestar 2. I've been researching for common problems/faults but there appears to be very little that goes wrong with them? It seems that there was some software issues and clicking from the rear axles?

Has anybody heard of or experienced anything to cause concern?

Not had mine for long but not had any issues. My research showed very little, a few suspension creaks here and there and a few software glitches which have mostly been solved with patches/updates.

Cheers Lee. Which model do you have and what range are you roughly getting?

I had a launch Polestar 2 from October 2020 to December 2023, with zero problems. It was a perfect car, other that a little tight in the back for adults.
Buying used, should protect you from some of the problems which affected some people.

I recently bought a used one and went through the same process.

I’ve not had any issues other than an inability to use my phone as a key. The tech is built around Google yet a Google phone (pixel 7) won’t function as a key whereas other phones do so with no issues.

I have also needed to reboot the infotainment once. It’s not as slick / polished as the Tesla one but I really like the HK audio and the internet connectivity - think it’s 7 years subscription free.

There is a PS forum which has lots of useful info - https://www.polestar-forum.com/forums/polestar-2-f...

As far as I can tell the biggest gripe seems to be the 12v battery. Apparently there is a small 12v battery hidden near the boot somewhere which cripples the car if it fully discharges. Reported as an issue by several people, the fix seemingly being to get at it and charge it. Historically there was a glitch with the reversing camera which seems to have been sorted with a s/w update.

Some people are critical of the ride, I quite like it, nice and firm with minimal body roll around the corners, though it must be horrible on cobbles and is intrusive on a poor road surface.

Rear seating isn’t spacious for 4 adults.

My commute round trip is about 120 miles, car uses about 24-26% each way ( summer), so I’d guess about 220 miles range. Only ever used a public charger on two longer trips.

Is that 220 mile range a duel motor car?

What's the thoughts on how these drive, are they fun to drive?

From what I've read the Polestar is a safe but rather dull car to drive, the twin motors are quick in a straight line though.

I test drove a Polestar 2 when looking for an EV. It came second in my short list and I thought it was nice to drive. I have rented one twice from Hertz and spent time driving it on various roads. The ride is firm and as others have noted does not have much body roll in corners but overall it drives very nicely. Built quality seems very good and reliability seems good. Prices seem to have taken a fall as cars come off lease deals and secondhand value looks very good.

Yes, dual motor. Sorry I should have said.

Most of my driving is home to work and back and frankly my mind is with whatever audiobook I’m listening to at the time so I’m not pushing it hard, just going with the traffic. It is fun to drive though when not on the motorway, the instant torque is great for overtaking on smaller roads and it doesn’t feel heavy.

I came from an assortment of Audis and VW Touaregs.

Edit to add I think the 0-62 is 4.something

LRDM Performance, comfortably get 220 to 240 miles on the motorway. Managed to get it up to nearly 300 miles last week when the M3/M25 were barely moving. Not sure how it will get on when it turns cold.

Thank you everybody for your replies. Reliability doesn’t sound too horrendous?! I’ve found a couple which have 1 year + Polestar warranty left so that gives me a bit of confidence. I need to test drive one but the firm ride bothers me a little. I like the ride of my 3 series BMW with its deep wall tyres so going to something firmer might take some getting used to.

It’s interesting to see what range you all are getting, I hoped that it would be more than 220 or so, although I’m looking at a long range single motor so going on reports that should give about 10% more range over the dual motor? I don’t do many long trips apart from the usual holiday to the Lakes and Norfolk so not having a range of say 300miles doesn’t bother me too much.

I had a wobble today about spending so much money on a car but I need to remind myself my ageing BMW could throw some more big bills at me (just had EGR issues which appear to be sorted now)!

I had a 2022 car / 69kWh / FWD
No reliability issues, main problem was finding a sensible insurance quote!
I had a nerd graph running during my ownership:

I have an early 2023 LRDM Plus pack.

No real reliability issues so far, I've done almost 32k miles in 18 months and it's always worked. Sometimes the infotainment has an issue and doesn't load correctly, but with a reboot it works again without issue. It makes some clicking noises when under low speed regen braking which I'll raise at the next service.

Range wise I think about 220 miles tops is achievable with a sensible motorway cruise, although in colder months it will be worse.

I enjoy driving it, the combination of instant power and good body control and cornering means it covers ground quickly and is useful around town. It's quiet and smooth on the motorway too. Off the back of having the Polestar and enjoying the experience I'm an EV convert and unlikely to go back to a diesel/petrol for a daily driver in the future.
