My S has a high pitched whine on my right shoulder, turbo....fuel pump.... rev dependent.

I'm "fairly" sure this is new.... Its not very pleasant and cant see it passing NVH.

Is this an issue or just standard?

I have a similar whine, but it's over my left shoulder.

Is yours, left hand Drive? Could it be the wife?

Sorry, no help, but I couldn't resist biggrin

When I test drove one I noticed similar. RHD car and I thought it was the turbo noise.

I didnt enjoy that noise but maybe something you would get used too. Loved the cars though.

Is it like a supercharger whine that increases with revs, although not as loud - just an accompaniment to the engine revs? If so, mine does that.
I don't have the sports exhaust and assume the cabin resonator would drown it out on cars equipped with it, but I find it quite noticeable on mine. Sounds a bit like a tight belt or something like that? Hard to describe.

Yes sounds like that.... it could be belt....

Once it stops raining Ill open up the engine bay and take a look.

Its not pleasant.

Ok, well mine's done it since new and I've accepted it as just being the noise it makes. I agree, it doesn't encourage you to rev it out like you might with the resonator equipped cars you see on youtube but I'd put that down to just not having the sports exhaust. Far too many years driving diesels, I do tend to surf the turbo torque and use higher gears most of the time anyway and it makes more than adequate progress for me!

It takes me back to the days of improperly shielded radio installs and the whine you'd get through the amplifier system as the revs climbed.

It's not very pleasant but I have got used to it. The sports exhaust setup helps drown it out under acceleration.

Just reminded me of how you'd have an accompanying whine in time with the wipers in my vans in the 80s biggrin

I think it's normal, every one I've driven has a high pitched whine behind the driver (RHD), I think it's the turbo/intake system. It's not very loud but I can see how you could dial into it, especially without music playing.

Completely normal I think, mine does it but it doesn't sound like anything untoward.

Johnny Smith mentions it in his review here - 14mins 40:

Cheers all, I think the issue was that when I first got it I drove everywhere in track/sports.

Probably hid the whine.

Ill just carry on doing that......

I was using Sport and Track at first but it's far happier in Normal in slow heavy traffic. A complete pussy cat.

This tank of gridlocked traffic and jam driving in London has got me 25mpg.

Pretty good compared to my Mustang for the same use, 12mpg and worse than my Duster at 35mph biggrin
