Had my door dinged by a vile lady-anyway found who she was and her insurance (Hastings) called them and they appeared great, offered to repair- however after many many weeks they started getting slow, repair was going to mean i had no car for a week, they hadn't arranged hire cars etc and became hard to deal with.

So i asked about cash in lieu and to be done with it. Fine they said- weeks later i get a offer of £1002. Sounds good you'd think except the quote to repair it was £2550! After to much back and forth they are claiming they have a lesser rate uploaded to their system from the repair company and so are going with that. I know from a slip up at the repair company (shorade) that Hastings have negotiated a discounted price and this is what they are offering. I've asked for this apparent "quote" and finally got a copy through today with all the prices redacted. They maintain that no they haven't agreed any discounts and this is the cost of repair yet how can it be £1500 less suddenly? Is this legal? someone mentioned the insurance act 2015 and that claims are to be based on the actual cost of repairs and not on arbitrary or unsubstantiated lower estimates?

Im inclined to go through small claims, i raised a complaint but of course the didn't uphold my end.

Any advise?

Or go through your own insurers

Bingo.

The claim has already started and been noted so nothing at all to lose by passing it to your insurers and telling them to get it sorted.

Reason why I wanted the cash in lieu is because they were messing me around with dates and car hire and was taking too long. Could still be the option but the fact they’re what feels like “lowballing” me is the issue, was happy with a cash In lieu as can get sorted on my own terms but feels like they’re trying to play games and also doing some dodgy stuff too.

Going through my Insurers isn’t the best idea, will increase my premium that why I’ve gone direct to them.

Unfortunately it will increase your premium anyway as you will have to declare this come renewal regardless who deals with it. So you may as well use them if dealing directly with Hastings is proving a pain.

The claim will likely already be logged on a claim database so high probability your insurer already know. Certainly wouldn’t keep them out the loop in the hope of avoiding having to declare the claim, at that point you’ll open yourself up to a whole new world of problems which will make £1000 seem like a drop in a bucket.

Non-fault claim may or may not affect your premium next renewal. When I had a no fault claim, my premium went up £20 a year but prices were climbing then already so in reality, probably didn’t add anything.

Best way to view it, is the time and hassle really worth a possible small price to pay next renewal?

Have you tried getting an alternative quote from another repairer? Demonstrate they're settlement is insufficient?

I can see the issue …. You went to shorade…..
they have taken the estimate and amended it to what they can get the repair done at their own repairers.

What car is it ?

Yes that’s what seams to be it. But can they more to the point?

the quote they have sent is redacted- no reason why it would be other than because it proves they are lying and have negotiated lower prices- or it’s not a lower price to begin with.

Hastings used shorade too-2 different prices from same repairer. But no evidence from Hastings to back up that other than what they say. it’s a Tesla

Have you got an independent quotation or 2 from your local body shops? It's irrelevant what their quotation is if you can't buy at that price.

It’s third party insurers messing around like this that make innocent motorists avail themselves of the services of Accident Management Companies and credit hire.

I had a Advantage Hastings customer rear end me that made my car into a Cat B write off. my company paid me & i had to contact Hastings for my excess. Hasting transferred the excess into my account within 2 weeks all good, that was at the end of July. Just had a mail from my Insurance asking me to fill in forms as they are taking Hastings to court (in my name?) as Hastings have not responded to them etc ? Good Luck...

Hastings will have contracted rates with Shorade, so will always have lower costs, probably prearranged parts discounts etc.

Can't you get a quote from Tesla via their app?
