So what are the realistic chances of Lando catching Max in the championship?

52 points behind. 6 races and 3 sprints left. If he finishes first and max second at every race/sprint (ignoring fastest laps) there’s only 45 points difference.

He so needs Piastri to take points off Max.

How much are McLaren gonna kick themselves for not prioritising Lando in Hungary and Monza!

I’m predicting he’ll be one race too short to catch him up.

One DNF for either Max or Lando could be the end.

It's pretty clear that they are going to user the RB cars to take the fastest lap away from Lando every race. That could potentially be another six points he will lose.

Oscar is key. He's good enough and has a fast enough car to ooccasionally get between Lando and Max.

That's all that's required

As max said, anything can happen. Norris is over driving even when he doesn’t need to, anything more than a love tap to the barrier risks engine components and penalties.

As above piastri will play a part, Perez far too slow to have an impact.

In any case it’ll be an interesting run in to the season finale.

This will come down to whether Mercedes and Ferrari can get inbetween Lando and Max. That starts to create big points gaps.

Did I hear right during commentary that Lando has only taken 1 point off the gap since May?

Even taking into account points inflation with the difference scoring systems, he's starting from the furthest back anyone in 2nd place has been trying to catch up and win a title. History says he won't succeed so his chances are pretty slim at best. That said going into the last 2 races with, say, 10 points between them. That will be interesting

Yep. That really would stink if they do that but Redbull aren't exactly known for their good sportsmanship.

I heard that, can’t be right though?
What’s this one month gap all about?

I’d love to see Lando win. Superb result for Max today though.

There have been 7 race winners this year and Max is always at the top end, even if he doesn’t win. Mercedes and Ferrari wins don’t help Lando if Max is right behind them

I assume that was another pointless Croft stat?

Well he's lost 52 points to Max since March, and gained 32 points since July, so it just depends where you count from. As ever with stats, they can be twisted to say anything you want.

It's entirely possible. The gap he built to Max yesterday was remarkable and (if the radio messages are to be believed), wasn't even on full chat for most of it. Norris has the car and the skill.

Unlike Max, he also has a super-quick team mate. So they have all the tools.

The one question mark is the team.

The McLaren of today has a different DNA to the McLaren of the past when they were dominant. They've won races but have yet to win a championship in the post Dennis/Whitmarsh era. As a result, I sense that they are re-learning how to do so as they go along and not always getting it right. They are most certainly getting there but I wonder whether this is all coming together just a little too late into the season.

Slim chances made even slimmer due to the Hungary screw up.

And Monza. Letting them race on lap one most certainly lost them the win.

The problem for Lando is that, love them or hate them, both Max and RBR are still operating at a very high level even if the car isn't as fast as others. Max shouldn't even have been on the podium yesterday - on Friday it looked like Charles was going to be fighting Lando for the win, Carlos and Oscar should have been in the mix too. Yet Max still took a fairly comfortable P2.

Lando needs a bit of help to catch Max because he won't win every race and every sprint, and clearly RB has 3 other cars that are trying to take fastest lap points from Lando, he certainly can't afford Oscar being as far off his pace as he was in Singapore, Oscar never really looked close to Lando's pace this weekend. It seems very, very unlikely that Max will be caught.

I am please that McLaren are getting a firm grip on the WCC trophy and cash.

While several outcomes are mathematically possible, I simply do not believe it will happen for Lando. Max will probably be a very worthy champion, again. He is platting sand at the moment.

As a few others have said, Lando's only real chance is for Ferrari and Mercedes to routinely get in front of Max in qualifying - bury him the midfield and chances are he will score low points, or have some damage/DNF.

If that doesn't happen then I think Max will scrape it.

I also think if Lando doesn't win it this year, he never will - this is his one chance, next year I think Oscar will have the measure of him.

Job done yesterday, you can’t do any more than win the race. Shame Mercedes didn’t have the race pace to get up there with Max, although Lewis did give it a good go into the first corner on the softs. As a Lewis fan, I wouldn't have complained too much if the Merc and Red Bull had ended up in the tyres there, wink

A relatively good weekend for Max though, compared to recent weeks. If they keep finishing 1-2 it’s going to be pretty much a dead heat at the end of the season. Merc and Ferrari need to show pace and get themselves between the McLarens and Max more often.

I don't think Lando will win it, but I think it will be a lot closer than Red Bull would have liked. I can also see the RB drivers role for the rest of the season to bolt a set of soft tyres on at the end of the race and take the fastest lap point away from Lando.

I think Lando needs a DNF or a terrible finish from Max to win it.

How many engine components has Max used, is there a chance he will have to take grid penalties later in the season? Ordinarily this would not be a problem as he would be back at the front within 10 laps, but now he might struggle to get in front of the Mercedes and Ferraris.
