Quick question

Im looking to book a flight with Singapore Airlines and there is a 50 min connection at Changi

Initial flight arrives at 2255 and the next leg leaves at 2345

Is this sensible or achievable?

My cautious nature is somewhat suspicious that I will have to be phoning work to throw a sickie having missed my return flight home. I shall be booking the trip as one flight so my bags should seamlessly transfer but I honestly cant see how they can offload (potentially an A380) and get me on the next one in such a tight time window

Comments welcome

Cheers

You may well find your bags join you 24 hours later.

It sounds extremely tight but if you have a word with the flight attendants they may be able to get you off the aircraft as a priority - you might even try & get a seat as far forward as possible when checking in. There will probably be greeters at the end of the jetway to collect you up & help get you to the next gate.

Is the plane you're arriving on, the same one that will be flying the next leg?

Changi is a large multi terminal airport but pretty efficient.

1st question, as above, is are you on a common 2 leg trip to Australia? In which case no problem, you will be taken to a separate area and out back on the same plane along with 80% of the other passengers.

If a true recognised connection that would be tight, particularly with checked luggage.

If you're changing airline it would be risky despite changi generally being pretty good now.

With no checked luggage, I can land and be in a taxi in about 20 mins with the new e-gates (well in the queue anyway, which can take over an hour or 2 mins). I connected to a flight to Taiwan via Singapore recently which needed a terminal change. 1.5 hours and carry on only meant I had time for a leisurely beer; checked luggage not so sure.

Do bear in mind changi still generally operates security screens at the gate which slow things down if you're not on one of the simple 'hop back on' connections.

Personally minimums are 1hr short haul and 2hrs long haul. Even just a small delay on your inbound flight will kill any chance of making the connection.

If it was on the way out to work, I might risk it. On the way home, no chance.

I did this a couple of months back,
If they sell you the ticket, it's possible.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to contribute

Its the same airline but I will need to change planes

My prospective booking is through their own website not skyscanner/expedia/etc

You’ll be fine.

Thanks to a delay leaving Glasgow we arrived in Dubai 10 minutes after our flight to Melbourne had closed.

They held the flight, and our luggage got to Melbourne on the same flight as us.

Obviously that was Emirates but all the international airlines have very efficient processes for connecting flights at their hubs.

And if it does go wrong, Changi isn’t a bad place to wait.

It's achievable (we have done it twice), but probably not sensible as it leaves little margin.

I'd have taken the 50 min connection over BA...

I've had some short connections in Changi and they're pretty much OK, even if you have to go from T3 to e.g. T2 it's quite efficient. Nothing hugely to worry about.

Jeez, £200 more for a longer connection? Just take the shorter connection, it's their problem if theres a delay
