Setting this up as a few seem to have picked up on the recent deal.

Thanks for setting this up.

I'm curious to know if everyone who has taken delivery is also missing the 3 pin granny charger? I feel like that should be included with the car.

Either way, I would like to know if I need to order one or not frown ( open to recommendations if any )

It’s becoming fairly common for new cars to not include granny chargers now.

- edit the id7 will be my 5th EV. Probably used a granny charger twice.

I'd only order one if you're planning on not getting a proper EV charger installed. I assumed from reviews that they came with x2 chargers but maybe that's a continental thing as it was a German based review? I'm probably just going to stick with the granny charger for now. I expect the only time we'll need a quicker charge is on long trips.

I know nothing about EVs. How long would it take to charge an Id7 off a mains 3 pin plug?

I don't have a wall charger, smart meter special tarrif etc but it would be for a work commute car so 100 miles Mon to Fri and would have the whole weekend to charge ready for Monday again

3.4 kw charging so probably 24 hours. I’d get a real charger.

Its basically battery capacity/charging rate. 2.3 kW seems to be the typical. 77kWh battery capacity so 33.5 hours to get from 0 to 100%. You're getting more like 7 kW from a proper wall charger so it's ~3 times as fast. Most of our use will be short journeys so charging time isn't really an issue.

We don't have a smart meter or EV tarriff either. May look into it but it will depend how often you'll need to charge usage etc. We have a PHEV at the moment its only 25 miles EV range but we seldom go outside that on day to day use.

I've run two EVs off a 3-pin for 4 years. It's fine with our low mileage and I usually cut down from 10amps to 5amps for safety (as even the slow charging is fine).

I would like a 7kw option but 900 quid pays for a lot of slow charging miles.

Edit: Any important differences between Saloon and Tourer in terms of features? I feel like the Tourer was missing something that was standard on the Saloon?

Thanks for those who answered questions above. As a total ev novice and needing to make a quick decision on this car, I appreciate the responses.

Having done some goggling tonight it seems a lot of people warn against charging from a house socket using a 3 pin charge lead. Anyone who has done this have you installed a special plug socket or done something specific? Or juat plugged it in to any house socket?

I've asked for a quote on the Tourer simply because to me it's much better looking.

Having done some maths it would cost 15 quid to charge on my 23p standard tariff which is still a game changer vs the 66 quid to fill my gti cs.

If you get a cheap tariff at least some of the slow charge you are planning would be at 7-9p a unit?

I'm a time served electrician and I'd be very careful about 13a charging of an EV.

This is my neighbour who's 7kw wall box stopped working. She ran an extension lead to the car and let it just crack on. The ring main isn't designed for a constant full 13a pull over extended times as can be seen. This isn't an old house but 5 year old self build with an epic house electricical system and new cables.

I've charged my PHEV for 3.5 years off a 3 pin plug with no issues. I got an inline RCD but electrics are like black magic to me so won't pretend to no more about it than I do.

On the Saloon vs Estate its the boot space 532 vs 605l and the look. I'm sure I'd read somewhere the sport back hasn't had the 5.0 software update.

This guy does alot of EV videos and a few comparing the load capacity and consumption if both.

All things being equal I much prefer the look of the Tourer.

I've purchased a non-VW granny charger which has settings to charge at 6/8/10 amps so I'll stick to 6amps and keep an eye on the socket and plug for heat.

Completely agree that using granny chargers shouldn't be taken lightly. However most chargers should be pulling 10a max, at least decent OEM ones. Do you know if your neighbour purchased a chinese charger, which often do pull 13a?

Going back to my own question I feel like maybe the sportback has adaptive suspension and the tourer is more basic and doesn't have as good a ride, could be wrong though.

Any new owners confirm if there's a luggage/cargo net? Just weighing up if we'll need a dog guard or not.

There are a couple of nets in the boot - not used them yet so not sure how big they are

The car comes with front heated, massage seats with memory function for 2 on both, heated steering wheel apparently (although not found the button for that yet), head up display which is actually great, full 'self drive' (ACC and steering help), 3 zone climate, wireless phone charging, 2 x USB C ports front and back, plus loads more bits which I've not figured out yet.

It's a super comfy ride - seats are great and the suspension is like a dream after my rock-hard Polestar 2 crashing over everything.

Tesla supplied 13a from new. Via the app you can throttle it down from 13a, but she didn’t know of that function so it was just pulling 13a night after night.
