Hi what brand of coolant do you guys recommend? I understand it has to be an OAT coolant. Also what is the quantity?

Many Thanks

From memory you will need between 5 and 10 litres at 50% concentration, so two 5L containers. I used Millers Alpine red longlife OAT. Straightforward - no need for vacuum filling.

According to the manual it's 14 litres so unless when it's drained, 4 litres remains trapped, you'll be needing more than 10.

I should have been clearer. ...5-10 litres of neat antifreeze at 50% concentration......., so two 5L containers of neat antifreeze.

Ok thanks for all your replies. Did you dilute with water or dionised water?

Didn't want to bother with getting deionised water that's why I got the premixed.

Rainwater, if you have a supply, is suitable.

Just doing a bit of research. The Havoline coolant is hard to come by in the UK. I understand texaco and havoline are the same manufacturer. I believe Land Rover use the same coolant but also recommend Morris ultra life Red OAT coolant. Will this do the job??

ULTRALIFE RED
ORGANIC ACID TECHNOLOGY ANTIFREEZE
Ultralife Red will protect all suitable engines from frost damage right down to -40oC (at 50% of total coolant volume). It also provides outstanding protection against rust and corrosion for all parts of the cooling system and is therefore recommended for all year round use. This Ethylene Glycol based antifreeze, which uses Organic Acid technology, is free from nitrites, amines, phosphates, borates and silicates. When used at the correct concentration coolants based on Organic Acid Inhibitor Technology are capable of providing extended operation compared to conventional antifreeze. This can be for up to 5 years or 250,000km in passenger cars and 500,000km in commercial vehicles, depending which is reached first.

Applications
Ultralife Red is suitable for the cooling systems of modern engines in cars, vans, trucks and contractors plant, where an OAT antifreeze is recommended.

I used Motul, it is OAT and compatible. They have premixed and undiluted.

Hi guys, how do you replace the coolant, because removing the plastic screw on the radiator is not a good idea, I already did it and it broke the rubber washers that stick to it, there is an exact FORD replacement for the drain screw
but the radiator drain only holds 5 liters.
That's why I wanted to know how you do to drain the circuit completely.
Thanks in advance
P.S. The Motul replacement is identical to the original one

That’s all I could get out of mine as well. So I just decided to change it more often. Hopefully someone on here knows, I would like to find out also.

Workshop manual states:-

1. Raise vehicle on ramp.
2. Remove front undertray.
3. Position suitable container to collect coolant.
4. Remove pressure cap from coolant reservoir.
5. Remove drain plug from radiator, allow coolant to drain.
6. Installation
7. Clean radiator drain plug.
8. Install and tighten drain plug.
9. Remove drain container.
10. Install front undertray.
11. Lower vehicle on ramp.
12. Fill cooling system with specified coolant mix to maximum level in coolant reservoir.
13. Install and tighten pressure cap.
14. Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached.
15. Stop engine, allow to cool down.
16. Re-check coolant level, top-up as necessary.

12ltr 50% water, 50% OAT Coolant (Arteco Havoline XLC only)
Do not mix OAT coolant with any glycol based anti-freeze.

I am only stating what is in the AM V8 Vantage official workshop manual for coolant change, key is to remove the coolant cap.

^

This only drains what’s in the radiator. Not what’s in the block.

Now, that would perhaps explain why my main dealer invoiced me only 6 litres of "coolant antifreeze" (1R12-322666-AA-PK) instead of 14 litres (17MY V8 Vantage S).

Their official explanation was that those 6 litres are neat/unmixed. I wonder now if that is true. confused

The workshops make it easy, they don't usually remove the caps because it is a breakage problem, they prefer to unscrew the radiator outlet hose to empty it
if it has a little more than 5 liters, because I had another 5 liter container left, for almost half, and that was even though I had containers, to complete 12 liters
