Sony Headunit Problem (Mk4 Mondeo)

My sony headunit has gone into fault whereby it is resetting itself every few seconds. The CD mechanism whirs a bit, 2 seconds of audio followed by 5 of silence. Repeated forever, although it quits a few minutes after switching the car off.

It doesnt stay on long enough that holding the power to reboot works.

I pulled the fuse, and now it is still doing the same thing with the added complication that it doesnt stay on long enough to input the security code.

I cant find the right combination of words to find a similar problem on google....

Any ideas....or know where i can get a replacement fitted (hampshire/surrey borders)

edited to add - I dont know the model name, but I think this headunit was common across Mondeo, Galaxy, Focus etc, mines a 2010 Mondeo
