That are not crawling with students and you can hear yourself think and talk on a saturday night?

Feel like a change and since the students are back, all my usual ones have upped the volume and now you can't hear anyone speak let alone hold a conversation any more.

It needs to be some bars in the city centre that are trendy (no old man taverns) and relatively nice.

[small]think im getting old[/small]

Any help would be much appreciated.

The bar down the side of the City Varieties is trendy yet not packed to the rafters.. It has comfy leather settees and some outdoor furniture if the weather is nice. I was there last saturday night and it was great...out of the way of all the Chav scum. Of which there are plenty in Leeds City Centre..

Bar home/home bar under the granary wharf seems a nice trendy bar as well, but last time I went on a satuday it was speak easy night club, have they stopped oding that yet cause it's crap and no-one in their right mind goes.

Whats so wrong with students!! To be honest for the next couple of weeks we are gonna be unavoidable - we will be everywhere!! As people go out and discover what they like etc etc.

When the majority of the 1st years realise that

a) Leeds is bloody expensive on a weekend

and

b) Its full of not very nice local people who like nothing better than to beat you

We will quickly disappear off down Kirkstall road to the God-like venue that is Club Evolution

WOOOOW There cowboy.. nobody said anything was wrong with students..used to be one myself but when ya hit the big 30 ya want to be in a trendy bar where you can hear yourself think but thats not cram packed with young uns downing pints of cider and on themselves!! Which is fun when you are younger but not so much fun when you have already done it yourself and are a bit past it..but not quite in yer grave..

I will concede that Leeds is a bloody expensive place to drink but this is why there are so many less central bars offering special student deals and as for locals not being very nice - I would really have to beg to differ.. I have lived in Leeds for some 20 of my 30 years and have never seen locals victimising students not unless the said students are pissed and falling through their hedges or relieving themselves in the garden..

Went out in Leeds as I lived there, well near there, and went to Uni there, so went out as a student AND a local. I never hit me, or beat me up.

Honestly, Leeds is a pretty nice place. Just don't go to places that clearly look like sh1t holes and you'll be right.

Was just about to say that, Im only 4 years past my student years and get on great with them especially living central headingley myself. Just when you want an easy night with mates or whoever and you litterally have to scream to be heard and theyre all full to capacity its like sardines in a can. Just sometimes a nice trend bar is just the ticket.

Evolution, def good fun, was there was saturday with my hockey mates and we all had a good laugh.

Greek Street is your best place fella, at least 5 or 6 bars of high quality teeming (I say TEEMING) with lovely, lovely ladies.

All full of suits (like myself) so never any trouble & for a fellow Pistonheader on a weekend place is crawling with Astons, Ferraris & Porsches (Boxsters common as the proverbial).

As you say though, quite expensive, but then again quality always is.

Couldnt agree more..I spend most lunch times eating yummy food and enjoying good company on this very street.. Of an evening these bars can be very very busy.. so if you are not keen on buying 5 drinks at a time steer clear of these bars Fri / Sat..

What's that place called which is underground and has a steel door and they check you out through a cell door style flap before they decide to let you in? Went there once, the only time I've been out in Leeds. We spent a lot of the time pouring beer over each others' heads as I recall.

Try the bars near to the Grand Theatre...
North Bar (Fantastic beer selection)
Sandanista (Good for cool music)
There is a Cuban bar around there that has a great selection of shooters and some very cool music. It's just next to Richer Sounds - looks a bit tired from the outside, but it's okay.

If you don't mind hanging out with the 30plus crowd, MoJo's can be a laugh, but probably not the place if you're 'out on t'pull'... or want to listen to music released in the last 7 years!

Get yourself to the Purple Door in york place, although it is essentially a lap dancing bar it is also a really good atmosphere bar, we've taken girls in there before and they've enjoyed it, no grief from dodgy lads.

Get down to The Cockpit. Nice and quiet and no students at all. Failing that look out for the 'Brighton Beach' nights.

I love the area, I spend most weekends down there, but like mentioned later it is quite packed on a fri/sat. With the added bonus of if you don't get there early enough you will queue!!

On the plus side the waitress service we always seem to get in Prohibition more than makes up for.
