Getting the side mirror put 2008 n400

Morning gents,
I'm struggling to get the side mirror put of an 2008 vantage (n400 if that makes a difference)... There's a couple of threads here that day it should pop out fairly easily.
I've bought a scrap Volvo V70 mk2 mirror which I believe should be the same motor and the mirror on that does indeed pop out really easily.. just tilt it a bit, get your fingers behind it and pull it off.
But on the Aston it really doesn't want to come out.. I've pulled from all angles beyond the point of bravery and it's not coming out..
Can anyone give me any pointers.. the cap comes off easy enough but I don't see any tabs there that help.
