Bikey things this weekend?

Anyone out this weekend? Forecast looks middling up here in West Central Scotland so hope to get out. Probably a forlorn one like most weekends but hope springs eternal. Mostly just ridden the FireBlade into town to be honest recently!

I think I might take my lad out for a few hours tomorrow, it might be last nice weekend we have for a while. I normally use this excuse from about September to December with the wife

Her ladyships birthday tomorrow so no bikey fun. Possible group ride on Sunday but I'm more inclined to change brake pads and take the old Yamaha for a short bimble.

I may have to go to Northampton for work soon so that is very useful. If the fan's not kicking in - thermostat?

Not sure - its registering the bike as getting hot and I get an error message with something linke 'fan failure' at the point when the fan should be kicking in but isnt...

Any suggestions welcome... Its a Gen 1 1290 GT

Other than something like a bad connection or a break in the wiring, I'd think that the only possibilities are an ECU failure (unlikely?), a sensor failure, relay failure, or a problem with the fan.

On my old K100, for example, the fan had seized.

First step would be to see if you can turn the fan by hand. Second would be to connect a battery directly to the fan to see if it works. Third would be to use a multimeter or a test light to check if the fan connection is switched on when the coolant gets hot - if it isn't, then look at the relay, then the temperature sensor.

There's probably a YouTube video that will help.

I was in the peaks this afternoon on my mountainbike, the amount of people on motorbikes was insane. I've never seen soo many in my life in the Peak district. All full beams and spotlights on too. Really annoying.
