Hi,

I have just moved to Sotogrande and taken among other thing my 2004 996 Turbo, the Journey down was fantastic.

I am in the process of sorting out Spanish registration, ITV etc.

The chap who is doing this for me has come across a query, can anyone help:

We have reviewed the information you have sent us and we see that the UK documentation indicates a variant of the vehicle that does not match the masses indicated on the manufacturer's plate, with these masses the variant should be MT22 or MY22 instead of LT21, we advise you to check with an ITV station to avoid setbacks at the time of inspection as they may be required to provide a document issued by the manufacturer to confirm the correct variant.

To complete the information we need you to confirm the net power of the engine, it should be 309 kW or 331 kW depending on the variants that match the masses on the plate.

I have checked all the V5's going back 20 years and they all list L21

Any clues??

Do you have the original certificate of conformity that lists the original spec?

If not, you should be able to get one from Porsche (or your Gestoria should get one)… you’ll need one for the registration process.

Thanks for your reply.

I've been through my folder of stuff and cant find a/the CoC.

Ill call Porsche tomorrow and see if they can assist, will it be chargeable or should it just be them emailing it to me?

I have googled CoC and there are companies that supply them for "my" vehicle, but want to charge me over £300.

There are a few 996 owners who’ve got the COC direct from Porsche via email… so they can get ULEZ allowance.

Try asking in the ‘what’s an early 996’ thread and I’m sure someone willl let you know who to ask. Pretty sure it’s free

Hope you get sorted out with the CoC to finalise your registration.

Have you managed to sniff out a reputable specialist to keep your turbo in fine fettle?

I’ll be very interested to hear how you get on. I was in Sotogrande recently and am regularly in Marbella. At some point I’d like to have something more interesting than our Seat and the climate and roads are perfect for classic vehicles. Prices however are high and so I think it makes sense to buy a LHD car in the UK, where it’s undesirable and then import.

I’m having some work done on my old 996 back in the UK before bringing it down here towards the end of the year.

I’ve found a guy who’s quoted just over €2k to get it on Spanish plates (plus headlights)… I’m not sure how he gets round the duty and vat, but he's assured me the quote is solid and he gets good reviews.

Not sure if its a litronics thing but on the 996.2 Litronics, theres something within the headlight, that when flicked/turned, converts the headlights from Left/Right hand drive

Contact the Classic and Sports Car Club Andalucia. Ian Giles is their El Presidente. Quite a few Porsche owners in the club so you will get good advice in importing, servicing etc., they also have a monthly run out, monthly lunch and several longer events each year.

Hi Nick,
Mail Porsche at contact@porsche.co.uk and ask them for the CoC order form.
They should send a doc that needs to be completed and then send it back to them along with proof of ownership, which is a copy of the V5 or the sales receipt if it's a recent purchase.

I've used this method twice.

So I managed to get my Turbo sorted, ITV, Spanish plates etc, the cost was really reasonable, just over €1000 all in. For anyone thinking of doing this, I used a local agent who sorted all the paperwork for me, attended the ITV test with me to walk it through.

I’m now looking for a local specialist.

2 months ago, I had an issue with my convertible roof, took it to a garage in Soto who assured me they knew what they were doing, but it took 3 visits and €6500 to get it done….

This morning, the turbo made a hissing sound, then I limped back home, so I need someone who knows what they are doing to look at the car. Other than taking it to Porsche, any suggestions?

Also does it have a rev limiter on, as revving the engine, it won’t go past 4K, is that because of the problem, or normal?..

You have a boost leak. Check the large black pipes connections in the engine bay and see if you can spot anything you may be able to fix it yourself. The pipes can come loose at the interccolers and turbos too.

Been a while since I had a Porsche but for LM runs, it just required a turn of an Allen key or similar at the back to switch the lights to European spec. Pop the light out first. Takes ten minutes tops.

I also have these warning messages on my dashboard:
ABS Failure and PSM Failure.

Could this still be loose pipes?.
