Re-fitting speed 6

Hi guys, im about to refit my speed 6 - but due to lack of equipment i will be dropping the engine in through the top and box from underneath. My question, how balanced/secure is the engine once fitted without the support of the box fitted?

Any thoughts welcomed!

I don't know the speed6 installation, but in my experience rwd engine mounts have always been reasonably close to the CoG of the engine and high enugh that the engine will sit on the mounts happily without the 'box attached.

It would be immediately obvious when you start settling the weight onto the mounts if it is going to sag. In that case it should be easy enough to add a prop to stop it.

In addition to Peter's comments above, I'd add that the N/S engine mount is notorious for failing/collapsing due to it's proximity to the exhaust/catalysts.
I guess a visual check will confirm the serviceability of what's there?

Thanks both.

The mounts are both new and have additional heat shielding protection.

But given where the brackets on the sp6 are, I didnt want them to collapse under the offset of weight - but a support rail running across under the engine by bellhouseing will do the trick.

Ceramic coating the CATs and manifolds help with the heat induced engine mount issues. I also got the brackets that fit to the engine coated. Engine out is a good time to carry out such 'mods'.

More of a note to future readers of the thread.

It will fall rearwards and twist the mounts. It needs to be supported. I’ve done engine in top and gearbox from bottom too. With chassis on floor had to stick a jack underneath to support, then get correct angle to fit clutch and gearbox.

It will droop at the rear if not supported.

More of a note to future readers of the thread.
So the engine is going in the sag briefly as i need space, then the engine will go into a Tuscan and an LSA into the Sag/ so at that point i will ceramic coat. Can i ask who you used?
