Hello all,

i'm still patiently waiting for the right S1 to come along, so i'm pretty up on what's available and how long they've been up for. It seems to me that very little is selling at the minute, is this because people are still asking summer premium prices? and are these prices set to become more realistic over the next few weeks? I'd appreciate any advice on what has happened in past years with pricing etc.

thanks for looking, Matt

There are lots of cars round that are realistically priced. The problem is that supply has far exceeded demand and there is a flood of Liz's out there on sale. It is a buyers market and you might find that making an offer will yield results. Personally I am quite happy that people are slashing their prices as it will badly damage the car as we suddenly find all the spotty chavs selling their saxos and buying one!

They probably will fall a little over the Autum, Winter period - cabriolets always do. However buying a sportscar and in particular a Lotus isn't an investment. If you wait you will buy it in November when you will only be able to take the roof off once every other week and the roads will always be wet.

Buy it, Drive it, Enjoy it and don't worry about what it costs.

Matt,

I recently made a similar purchase and probably a similar amount of deliberation about price and value!

IMO you may see a small drop in the private market over the next month or so (private sellers usually have a time dependent reason for selling the car) but the dealers and specialists have the seasonal fluctuations accounted for .. its a seasonal market so they expect to make most of the profit in the summer and sit tight in the winter.

Have driven many? I found that it was only when I started to go and look at a few that I could sort out what was a fair deal from the many 'tired' looking S1's out there

Only driven one up to now, nothing worth looking at around my area at the minute. Out of interest, how much did you end up paying? and how much was it up for?
