Long time lurker - first time poster but with a couple of threads that Pistonheads might be interested in?

So a bit of background is that I'm a hands on massively multi skilled engineer in the chemical industry. I've always serviced/maintained and tinkered my own cars since passing my test. I will only get rid of a car/vehicle if it no longer serves its original purpose - the term 'beyond economic repair' isn't in my vocabulary!
Our daily drivers are the wife's 2004 Volvo V70 with 208k (that we've owned for 15years) and my 2004 Peugeot Partner. Both are immaculate and extensively serviced and maintained. I have a workshop at home but only with normal hand/DIY level tools.

As a result I tend to be offered cars that are beyond economic repair for their owners but that they have too much emotional attachment to scrap (I also have a £500 XC90 but that's a separate thread)

Which brings me to my Porsche Cayenne. It belonged to a work colleague who used it as his snow car (year round motorbiker), it failed its mot with exhaust issues and a few other things. He has a young family and a new Tesla on the company scheme so wanted rid.

I always like the 955 / 1st gen Cayenne as it's a capable platform with permanent 4wd, transfer box with low range, centre diff lock, and decent traction control system. There's also quite a big modifying scene in the States for these.

Anyway we settled on £500......

Looks like I can't link to photos for 14days!

Any other way of hosting photos on here?

Not sure on the image hosting, other than waiting for a bit.

Looks like a fun Readers Cars thread anyhow!

don't have that button, I tried linking from Imgbb.com but I have to wait 14days to be able to post links?????

I can't even post a quoted reply!!!

Do you have to do the image select thing every time you post or edit?

To my knowledge you can upload any single image using that button, and as many as you want in a post. It'll place a link for each one in the text box. When you edit, the links will remain.

I wasn't aware you needed to wait 14 days, but there has been a lot of spambots on here recently so it's probably to counter that.

In the meantime, have a look about, read some projects, and avoid the occasional unpleasantness. It's a decent community and we'd all look forward to seeing your £500 Cayenne shed in the near future.

What kind of Cayenne is it?

It's a 2005/55 plate registered just before the road fund increase, 3.2 V6 petrol, 955/ 1st gen, on coils, in dark grey.

You'll just have to imagine what it looks like for the next 2weeks!

That's few ticks in the potential longevity box then, the 4.5 V8's have some engine killings issues and the air suspension can also be expensive.

Should be a good project to get your teeth into

I've owned it for 8 months so have done a bit of work on it already. Not sure if I can be bothered waiting 2weeks to link photos of it though!

That's the same as Imgbb.com photo hosting. I'm not allowed to include links for 2weeks in case I'm trying sell dodgy Viagra etc.

Does everyone have to do the image checker thing every time you post or do an edit? - the 'choose the images with traffic lights', or 'choose the images with buses' type thing that it asks me to do on every post? Is that because I'm new or is it always like that?

Try now. I've toggled a switch, might not be the right one...

Hi Bill

It showed signs of promise in that the image upload button was available but then I get

"New members are unable to post links in the forums for their first 14 days to prevent spam.
"

when pressing submit.

I've started a thread about it imaginatively titled - £500 XC90!

I'd post a link and some photos about it but it's going to either need a Mod to pull the correct lever, or come back in two weeks.....

It seems pretty daft that new users can't post links to pictures hosted by the site, but then, this forum is powered by a hamster on a wheel and is a bit behind the times...
