Why do the media continue to use this phrase. It clearly does not fit the bill.

I glanced a headline in a comic/tabloid this morning which was about some poor kid who has been stabbed to death whilst onlookers took 'Happy Slap' footage on their mobiles.

Can't they come up with a more suitable phrase. I don't think anyone can relate this event to happiness.

Media? Do they deliberately print crap to stir ill-feeling?

IMHO, yes. Ill-feeling sells papers.

Any time any sort of violence is caught on a mobile phone camera, it's going to be 'Happy Slapping' no matter what the circumstances. I'm suprised no-one's called for mobile phone cameras to be banned as they're obviously causing more violent crime

Well youu may jest but Happy Slapping didn't exist before these things were invented. Now suddenly we have DiY snuff movies.

A hate mobile phones. Damnable inventions.

I want to go and live in a hut somewhere, on a hill. Alone.

I would like to give a 'happy slap' to whoever in the media thought up the term.

It is a term that makes random acts of violence sound acceptable.

True, but I bet there was a huge increase in incidents after Trevor McDonut 'exposed' it.

Thing is, people do shitty things to each other, always have done, always will do, mobile phones with cameras or not.

Ah, but we can look on it this way.... at least the police have a ready source of evidence should the little scrotes get caught!

On the plus side, a couple happy slappers could trifle with a Welsh rugby player... I'd imagine it really would be a snuff film then!

egomeister.

If only. Didnt you read about the recent event of "happy slapping" where a number of little scrotes tied an 11 year old boy to a tree & set the tree on fire ! Oh & whilst doing this they filmed the (presumably) hysterical 11 year old trying to get free on their mobiles.

After a couple of the perpetrators admitted their guilt, the CPS kindly confirmed that it would not be in the Public interest to prosecute the little f*****s, even though there faces were clearly to be seen on the film & they admitted their guilt.

WTF !! Happy Slappers. Happy kick in the bollox says I.

In criminology its called 'deviancy amplification', and is a typical result of reporting standards today.

Oh no, didn't you know violence only started a few years ago with video messaging?
