The latest news on speed cameras is horrific. I know that many will disagree with me, but I can''t and won''t obey speeding laws which are absurd, and worse still, corrupt. Camera use is grossly abused by the Police to raise revenue, and this is inexcusable. Driving standards are good in this country, and if we had a truly skill-based driving test speed limits could be raised to a sensible level. This is not (yet) a Totalitarian State and, if we are any sort of Democracy at all, the whole concept of spy-cameras is offensive. If they can be removed in Canada they can be removed here, and the sooner the better. Otherwise, any vestige of repect we have left for the Police will simply turn to hatred. I joined the Association of British Drivers yesterday, because it is the only organisation which can help us, and I beseech other drivers to join too, if they feel they can reasonably afford it. (www.abd.org.uk). I have no other connection with ABD whatsoever, but with enough support I believe they can give us the chance to fight back. Sincerely, Ian Stewart.

I quite agree. Cameras are becoming more common by the day, as simultaneously Speed Limits are being Reduced Everywhere ( but NOT at accident Black Spots ). I have also noticed lately more Speed limit signs seem to be hidden in trees ( I could be paranoid ). I have for the last 3 Sundays Running driven past an Unmarked Police Car Radar Trap - Outside a School in billericay. Not at all looking for Revenue.. If he`d been there on the Monday then I`d understand. So what do we DO about it ? Arrange a Day of Protest where no one uses their cars so removing the Petrol and Speed Camera revenues in one fell swoop ? Edited by Jason F on Wednesday 25th July 18:07

I'm still up for blacking out all known cameras with sticky black discs. If we get enough people to do it over a weekend it will do the old bill out of thousands. If we do it often enough then it'll cause uproar. Anyone work for Geodesy that can give us all the locations ?, come on who's up for it. Jim

I totally agree with all of you, but with Police forces and the government claiming huge and increasing revenues year after year, is it really ever likley to be reduced? I am all for joining the ABD, destroying Camera's, picketing petrol distributions stations etc... but in this supposed 'democratic' country, its seems to be impossible to influence anything the government do? I know we can all vote, but we dont get to vote on the policies the b*stards put in place do we? As soon as someone decides to make a stand, such as the petrol blockades, the government label you as a terrorist, and as the policy is to never give in to terrorism, we can never win can we? Sorry to be a bit gloom and doom, but I honestly dont see how we can ever change something like this that makes £££'s. When was the last time your monthly outgoings went down for Tax, council tax and similar.......same as mine, never!

I am in agreement with all here, except perhaps with the attacking cameras, that has to be done by electronic means surely. I have no time for the police anymore and an increasing interest in politics largely derived from the sheer rage motoring issues cause. The credibility of the judiciary, government and police depends on them being percieved as being in the right. I am convinced that for the most part current legislation governing motoring in general (i include speeding, photo ID, fuel duty, car pricing et al) is simply not right, both morally and theoretically. Question is what can we do, vote for somebody else is a start, beyond that, last time there was an issue that boiled this much blood was the Poll Tax. I don't condone violence, but I think that there is a point when talking has no effect anymore. My first choice for action would be to hire a couple of thousand hire cars on multiple user deals swap drivers and then use them to block key points around london. then just walk away. It will take time to organise their removal and there will be nobody to blame with so many available drivers This is a civil rights issue, they are worth alot

I can assure everyone interested in this thread that the speed/accident statistics compiled by the Police and used by the Government are seriously bent. I used to know a retired Civil Servant who worked in the Department responsible for putting these things togrther, and what he told me about the spin (outright distortion) would make your hair curl (everywhere!) I'm going to try a bit of research on how they've done it in Canada. Fingers crossed.
