We’ve ( mrs Toy & I ) been on the London to Brighton classic run in our 1968 Tr5 the last 2 years and it’s been very enjoyable but we’re now looking for something a bit more adventurous.
Something in Europe would be nice , ideally historical , sort of like a poor man’s Mille Miglia ? 2-3 days duration ideal !
Anyone been on anything or have any recommendations ,
TIA ..

Though we take part in organised one-day driving events during the summer months we prefer going solo, just the two of us in our Riley, stopping when we want to, visiting anything that interests us, eating and staying where best suits us. Travelling in a group, even just a handful of cars, can quickly become tedious.

Our most enjoyable week's motoring by far has been Land's End to John O'Groats via B-roads when we drove no more than 200 miles a day so we could enjoy the countryside and places we passed through along the way. Just because you drive an old car doesn't mean you shouldn't go it alone.

Mr.Toy,
In your TR5, I suggest you keep an eye on the TR Register website for events , the Club Triumph website for rally/runs and the TSSC website for the International Weekend in 2026

https://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php
https://www.clubtriumph.co.uk/ See in particular their 10 Countries run (on now!) and the Round Britain Reliability Run (next in 2025)
https://forum.tssc.org.uk/

Look too on all those for your local Group's activities.

Have fun!
John

Thanks for the ideas folks , I am a Tr register member and maybe should take more note of the trips they organise and promote .
We have a few ideas for next year , one being a regularity rally organised by Bespoke Rallies . This seems to involve stages both on and off road matching times over two runs over two days .
Not something I’ve done before but sounds like fun !

Plenty to choose from on the web, it all depends on your wallet?
Try these guys https://www.sceniccartours.com/ we have used them many times, very good service.
They do tours all over Europe ( and the world ) with everything laid on.
How about their trip to Laon Classic France, we enjoyed ourselves so much we went again. The first day is a non competitive tour of the countryside with a tulip road book and a nice stop for lunch.
Second day you all gather in Laon, the road up and down from the old town is closed to the public. It then becomes a “special stage” for the classics,so you can drive up and down as fast as you dare!!

The other trip we did was The Jersey International Festival of Motoring. Similar set up to Laon.

Bespoke Rallies are one of a number of groups and clubs which organise Historic Rallies. Others being ‘Rally The Globe’ HERO and a host of other local motor clubs who organise MSUK and Continental rallies.
They will vary from gentle competition, to some pretty intense and quite serious competitive events.
You mention off road ‘stages’ again these can come in different flavours. The ones where you match times ( not often done in the Uk) are two loops of a circuit where you drive the first at an average speed ( chosen by you, but usually between upper and lower limits) the next loop you match that time to the second. Closest wins.
Other ‘stages’ are known as Special Tests, these are a timed to the second run around a set course of cones, or tracks, quickest wins.
Check out the websites of the two I mentioned and also the HRCR Clubmans series. The latter is a championship of single day events which are highly competitive.

Beware it’s addictive and ultimately can be somewhat costly!

Hi sjc, I’m considering that one for next year? Can you please let me know how you get on, including the ferry crossing. My wife can easily get sea sick.
Have a good trip.

Thanks for the ideas . The Laon classic looks good . Just got to persuade my other half that it’s not to far in the Triumph. Was considering trailering the car down there but that seems to be missing the point really!

It’s a bit of a slog for you from Lincoln, must be about 230 miles to Dover. Calais to Laon is 140 miles straight down the A26.
Perhaps you could stay in the Premier Inn at the port and leave the trailer in their car park. Mind you I’ve seen lots of classics arrive on trailers at Laon.

I was considering trailering the car behind our motorhome and staying at the Laon campsite, save a bit on hotels but cost extra on the ferry !
I’m Just a bit concerned the novelty will have worn off by the time we get there, not so much for me but Nic !
The drive down from Lincoln won’t be a lot of fun .
Leaving the trailer at the port would maybe be a reasonable compromise.
How many miles / km is the Saturday run ? It doesn’t say on the website.
Thanks .. Dave

The last time I went was before COVID. It looks as if they have changed things a bit. This year Saturday was a 115kms tulip road book run to the Circuit de Chimay in Belgium, for lunch and a drive round the circuit.
Sunday was the normal closed road blast up and down Laon old town.
Best to call the guys at Scenic Car Tours. I’m sure you will find that it’s a massive gathering of cars, from a model T to a Ferrari . It’s non competitive, you can please yourself with the route, have lunch, mix with everyone.
