94 Chimaera - Rear Screen
Discussion
Hi. The rear screen on my Chimaera has started to come unstitched. Only about 3 or 4 inches but obviously going to get worse. The screen itself is in good nick, doesnt need replacing, just re-stitching. Anyone with experience of doing this or know someone in the Norfolk/Suffolk area that could assist. The only people i can find wont do it and are quoting over a grand to just replace the whole Targa unit.
Had the same on mine.
I did stitch it myself and lasted a while but all of the stitching went eventually.
You can get an excellent replacement hood fitted for around £700
The place is in Romford.
I did try and get a price for just replacing the rear screen or just restitching it but it’s not economic

Not practical for you location wise, but as a guide I had a replacement rear window stitched in as well as both Velcro flaps stitched for £170 at a local classic restoration place last month. That was me removing the roof and handing it in. I would have thought you could find somewhere to do the job at a reasonable cost.
I have sewn 3 corners myself just following the old holes. Use 2 big needles so that you can replicate the stitching. Also dab some seam sealer or clear touch up on the 2 ends of the old thread to stop it going back further. I had a quote for a £100 to have a new clear section fitted. A fellow car club member had it done with the roof still attached to the hoop. When I went they wanted it off the hoop. I could not do this without the mohair delaminating.
