The rear speakers in my car are not working, and neither is the CD changer in the boot from what I can tell.

Don't really care about the CD bit, and I may actually remove that at some point, but it would be nice to get the rear spearers working again.

Is there an obvious first place I should look to try and work out the problem / fix it myself? Have checked the fader setting and it is not this.

Or given that I am probably going to get one of those newer Bluetooth Pioneer head units that have the phone holder built in at some point, will the person installing this be best placed to get these working at the same time?

Check the wiring to them is the first place to start, if the wires are connected and the cables look continuous in the boot then its time to remove the head unit and do the same there.

Yep all looks like it is connected up, I've found an old invoice for the work and it seems that when the car was about a year old (with just 904 miles on the clock!) the owner then had the CD changer and the rear speakers added in by Mole Valley TVR.

Could there be a fuse somewhere either behind the dash or added down in the footwell that I should be looking for and trying to change? I think anything more than that and I'll just leave it be...

No fuses in speaker circuit, may be disconnected at rear of head unit. Unlikely the speakers are both knackered but you never know.
