Engine temp sensor

can someone clarify that this is the above component please? ref SNB802 (a very dark pic in the Steve Heath manual suggests this is the location) there seems to be nothing but sensors or blanking plugs around that area, if this is the correct one, it wont unscrew, it just keeps turning, I bought a nice shiney new brass one too for 11 quid, but can't fit it

Yes that’s the Ecu temp sensor and very important for your Ecu to control fuelling
Best see a mechanic to replace it if your Having trouble removing it!
As a side note the smaller unused one next to it can be used to replace the gauge sensor which is in a better position than the TVR one which is situated on the front of the engine near the thermostat housing.. that requires a different sensor to work with the TVR gauge so ignore it for the time being.
Concentrate on the Ecu one first.
Others might have had the same problem removing it so maybe wait for advice as to what to do before wrecking it trying to remove it.

Andy - if this is the temp sensor "mod" we spoke about when we met, it's the smaller one in your image that you need to be removing - the one with the single "pin" connector. It is not the other one with the two pin connection - you can leave that one well alone. Edited by Andy70 on Friday 30th August 02:09
Getting some heat on it, or something like PlusGas should loosen it enough to get it out
No I've got the one I'm looking for, I just can't get it out, I've made up a tool at work, so I'll see if that will do the job, the one we talked about was buried down a bit further if I recall, it turns ok, it just doesn't unscrew cheers for your input though

i just stumbled on an old thread on here and the guy in question said he bought a new sensor and the plastic hex head section was just turning on the sensor, so there fore he couldn't do it up, could I have the same problem, but in reverse?? You know what, it did wonder if it was the top just turning

That's the sensor for ECU. Mine had plastic thread -looks like yours has. You will have to turn with spanner whilst gently levering upwards with a screwdriver (a two person job)
yep, done that, I even made a widget at work out of stainless steel to leaver it up, no luck, I've even had mole grips on there and pulled like f**k as i turned, no luckHence why I was wondering if the top was just turning as I found in an old thread, I suppose the only 2 options are to let a mechanic sort it, or drill it out close to the bore size and tap with the correct tap and hope that a procedure before this may be enough to dislodge it or then just run a tap down and flush coolant out again, which wouldn't be a bad idea as even though I have changed the coolant, for some reason its still looking like rusty water, so some must have been lurking somewhere
