My son has just bought a 2010 one for his first car. But the bite of the clutch is really high he tells me. I think its cable (but not in the country to check) rather than hydraulic - he says the local dealer told him it cannot be adjusted and 'they are all like this'

Any ideas please??

Also are they prone to leak around the rear boot/window - he has found a wet headlining

And finally he is struggling to open the fuel filler, again known issues??

A good choice for a first car -my daughter had one.

The clutch cable is self-adjusting, although (I think) there may be a small amount of adjustment on the actuating arm. We had a mare with replacement clutches -looking back, I think a new cable needs fitting with a new clutch, and then a retaining clip has to be removed. If the old cable has been re-used, the adjustment will be all to cock. The clutch, like all the other controls, should be light to use.

Clutch cable can be adjusted, but it is likely clutch is on its way out.

Leaks in the boot area are very common, check rubber seal around boot opening, also the seals behind the high level brake light and the rear lights. If water still getting in then it could be coming in via the vents hidden behind the rear bumper.

Fuel filler flap should just pull open, the locking cap is not very smooth in operation - Scrumplet the elder found unlocking the cap quite difficult at first, but has the knack now.

thanks everyone for the replys - just landed back in the UK after working away and the Mrs picking up the car for our son.

So a few little things as we mentioned - the clutch is high but he is now getting use to it. I will have a look at adjustment this weekend. Garage said they are all like that!!!

The locking petrol cap issue - its not the flap, but the strange lock in the cap its self - turn one way then the other etc etc. So I managed to get it open and I think it will remain unlocked going forward

Water ingress - the garage are looking at it today and thinks its around the high level rear stop light.

Now we have found the indicator lights in the instruments and not flashing - we get the audial clicking, but only a faint flash on the right light. So bad connection, bad bulbs etc - Garage said tough on that one!!! I wonder if the instruments bulbs are easy to get to???

Leaks are generally sorted with silicone in various areas or i think there are various companies on eBay that sell (supposedly) uprated gasket seals for the rear lights, brake light, etc.

So an update - collected the car from the garage you have 'fixed' the leak from the 3 stop light. Anyway going through everything with my son and got him to show me cleaning the rear screen. Pump came on but no water, got out to take a look only to find that the water was coming out but straight up into the air.
The garage had taken the light off, checked some silicone behind it and in their rush to finish put the light back in upside down. Blood muppets

So found the gaskets on eBay and ordered one myself, fix will happen next week.

At least it wasn't pumping screenwash into the boot? That's where I thought the sentence was going.

Indicator fault likely to be the stalk. They are prone to failure. I fitted a cheap eBay replacement stalk and it works fine.

The stop light was warranty if you can call it that

Good to know it might be the stalk for the indicators. Would it still the stalk as the beeping is working just no flashing on the dashboard

Hazard switch is also prone to play up. Another ebay fix for less than £15.
