Morning All.

Would anyone of you have any feedback on the car below?

https://turn7.co.uk/showroom/caterham-superlight-r...

I had originally been looking for 420R's but they are a little out of my budget. This car seems to have everything a 420R would but I have a few questions.

1) Mileage - Should I be concerned its at 32,500 or is it nothing to usually worry about?
2) Change of colour / Respray - Is this something that should be avoided or not an issue with Caterham's?

Really just wanting to make sure nothing is missing on the car or any reasons to avoid?

Many Thanks

My Seven is a little younger than this one and in the mid-20's for mileage. Honestly I'd rather see a car with some miles on it as it shows it's actually been driven. The ones with little to no mileage tend to have more issues from what I've seen!

Regarding the respray, again, my car is the same age and I had mine re-painted a couple of years back. At that mileage it will have picked up a fair number of stone chips, but in my case, I bought the car used and never liked the plain black, and always wanted the car in a bright colour. They're relatively cheap to paint compared to most cars, it was probably a good chance to give the car a once-over.

Obviously it would be worth getting the car looked at to check for any repair work, but the nice thing about Sevens is that nearly everthing is repairable, and the specialists can get them back to better than new state!

It looks very nice, remarkably similar, in colour & spec to my car. I’ve covered almost the same miles (31,000) in my 2017 420R & mine is running very sweetly indeed, barely run in, I’d say! Turn 7 have a good reputation, I’d investigate further if I were you.

I wouldn’t worry about mileage, especially, not that low. 2k per annum is just enough to stop rubber drying out.
Plus, the speedo cable on a Caterham means many are just giving an indicated mileage.

id be all over that if it was an sv. i'm currently after similar. i'm finding my money won't stretch to a 420.

i had a r400 a car before my last and that had 24k on the clock and also had been fully resprayed. it looked immaculate and i had zero issues with it.

go for it id say, looks a beaut...

Pretty sure the above is not a 420, previously advertised detailing various modifications. HTH

Everybody will tell you not to worry about mileage . And you shouldn't - both my Sevens had 50k plus when I sold them and were as good as ever . BUT don't believe that mileage doesn't affect re-saleability or value . It really does . Not as much as on a normal car , but I still 'lost' significant value and my R400 went for many k less than the valuation experts told me and sight unseen no dealer would even make an offer . .

But who cares ? Given the immense fun a Seven is, how it turns every trip into an adventure I can't say lost much sleep about taking a bigger financial hit than those curious folk who buy a Seven but hardly ever use ...

I had my 2008 R400 D re sprayed. Just wanted to tidy it up. I wouldn’t worry about that at all, just check the quality of it or find out who did it (if it was Tony the brush at TSK even better).

Condition rather than mileage is the important bit. After all …. it’s only done ~2000 per year.
