Wondering if anyone can help please.

My wife and I are on holiday touring Scotland and having issue with the Chim.

I've managed to track the issue (Juddering and cutting out at fixed throttle setting) to a worn throttle pot.

If anyone has one near Aviemore (Balavil) or knows where I can get on please can you give me a shout (p5rover@hotmail.com) so we can resum eoutr journey on 30th and make it to our 34th wedding anniversary on 31st without killing each other due to stress?

Can’t help with the throttle pot, but if you need a lift to get one, I’m happy to help. I’m also on holiday in Aviemore, I’m here until Saturday.

You could try https://www.tvrecosse.com/

They're the other side of the Cairngorms - near Dundee, but might be able to help.

If it’s any like the Cerb you can unplug one and it’ll use the working one on both banks as a get-out.

No idea on a chim if that will work though. Can’t harm to unplug and try?

Thanks Notaping. I came from Arbroath yeterday - Friend of mine has a garage there and we played about checking stuff and changing the ignition amp in case that was the issue. I could, I suppose, at a pinch nick the one off his chim but it means a 200 mile trip in a misbehaving car and I'll still have to buy him a new one.

I've heard about TVR Ecosse.

Thanks Stu, I don't know if the Chims have 2 - Can anyone confirm?

Unless it is the Speed 6 Chimp then it will have one on the side of the throttle body. I assume it is a discountinued part as it is for the RV8 in the wedges. You could try TVR Glen / North East Salvage over Newcastle way for one from a scrapper if TVR Ecosse don't have one.

If not already done, then the facebook groups would be a good resource to post on too.

Thanks all, I'm going to head back to my friend at Angus Autogas, Simon Hill. He's found me one and can fit it later. He knows the RV8 about as well as anyone in UK. So it makes sense.

ACT Performance or RimmerBros are selling kit to adapt a new model, around 200GBP, not cheap but this should last.

I've made it back to Angus after a hairy 100 mile journey where the car kept cutting out for several seconds.

Simon has a new style pot he fitted to a customer car which customer has agreed Simon can let me have and order another.

HOWEVER, putting a meter on the existing pot is giving consistent readings.

Wondering what else it can be though

My TVR is long gone, now in a C7 RS6.

Already did. But thanks.

So today I drove back to Arbroath to my friends garage and tested the thrttle pot and it appears find. HOWEVER we noted the car was running very rich. Tested the AFM (replaced a few months ago) and its not working.

Fitted a S/H AFM that Simon nicked off one of his cars and it's all running fine.

I managed to crash the Chim on the way back from Arbroath to Balavil (near Inverarity). Ran it off the road into a ditch.

Still, it's running much better.

Sounds like you need to upgrade to an aftermarket ECU etc .. to ressolve your issues. Simply the only answer. biglaugh

If the AFM has 'gone', upgrade to the larger Jag item??? Plus, shorten the inlet trumpets and get a modified plenum with 74mm(?) throttle body ..

Oh mate!
Glad you got to the bottom of the issue...
It's interesting to see that the problems are usually associated to a fairly short list of components, just a pain that they are becoming more difficult to source.

Hope you're ok from the crash

Which is the larger Jag item?
Is it plug and play?

Mine's all working fine, but good to know...

I was just about to ask the same question!

Which model/year Jaguar AFM?

...for a 4.5 Pre-Serp
