I enjoy documenting my car journeys on here, so it's time to start another one.

Being a serial Pistonheader, I am constantly on the look for another car. I have recently been looking at McLarens (570s/600LT), Lotus Exiges (410/430 cup) ... and yes, Porsche.....

I have had a GT3 and then the GT4 (981) previously, and I have never driven anything so pointy and exciting. Yes, they are not the fastest cars in a straight line, but they were not made for that; it's all about the dynamic handling. The turn in and responsiveness never gets boring.

So after a lot of searching I finally found my unicorn; a PTS Ultraviolet GT4 being sold by a OPC. A colour I've always wanted to own ever since I saw a GT3 RS wearing it.

I was on my anniversary break with Mrs CT and whilst doing my daily check on the beach, it popped up. So I bought it there and then as I knew it wouldn't hang around.

Here is the spec (c. £35k of extras)

-718 GT4 Clubsport 4.0l
-PTS Ultraviolet
-Full PPF
-Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)
-918 Carbon Bucket Seats - Yellow stitching
-Roll cage in Satin Black
-Schroth harnesses
-‘PORSCHE’ logo painted in Satin Black
-Exclusive Design fuel filler cap
-Chrono Package and preparation for lap trigger
-Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)
-Wheels painted in Satin Black
-Two-zone automatic climate control
-Fire extinguisher
-Dashboard trim package leather/Race-Tex
-Door trim package leather/Race-Tex
-Sun visors Race-Tex
-Storage compartment lid in Race-Tex with 'PORSCHE' logo
-Carbon interior package (with leather interior)
-Door sill guards in carbon, illuminated
-Vehicle documentation folder in matt Carbon
-BOSE® Surround Sound System ?
-Stitching colour selection - Yellow
-Interior Trim Package with decorative Stitching and embroidery in contrasting Colour
-Bi-Xenon main headlights in black including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
-Light design package
-Electrically folding exterior mirrors including courtesy lighting
-Automatically dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor
-ParkAssist (rear) with reversing camera

It's barely been used with c. 1k miles.

I went PDK this time because I think it's a fantastic auto box which worked well on the GT3. I felt the 6 speed manual on my viper green GT4 was a bit long, so I looking forward to slightly shorter ratios in the 7 speed PDK.

I also had steel brakes previously, and after having carbon ceramics on the R8, it was a non-negotiable option on this car! Plus added bonus that there is no brake dust to clean.

I have a number of modifications planned (and ordered) so I will document them here.

It is being collected week, and I feel like a kid on the run up to Xmas day.

Here are some OPC pics.

That’s awesome. I am looking at a few of the same cars as you for a change next year but swinging towards the 570s.

I was very serious about moving to the 570s or even a 600LT. It just gets me nervous on why an annual warranty is c. £5k when a GT3 / 4 is almost 20% of that. Their underwriters must have calculated the frequency and average repair cost to justify that.

In my mind that equals unreliability. Granted, there are lots of owners who have no issues and an excellent ownership experience.

Let me know how you get on. I will always ‘want’ one!

I understand. It has taken me a lot of research (made a thread in the McLaren section) to get to a point where I am comfortable. The warranty is £3200 now.

Shrewd purchase.

Just one point of interest you do realise the PDK in the GT4 is the standard Porsche PDK also fitted to non GT Caymans whereas the PDK in the GT3 is the much more focused PDK S.

I do, I’m in the GT4 group so researched prior to. It still has clutch dip features like the GT3 but doesn’t have the same snap.

That’s a fair price. Great that you’ve done the research, that’s the beauty of places like PH. Invaluable resource.

I would love to change them to a colour like Aurum gold, however I’m not sure how it will go with the yellow brake calipers. Might be a no-go. Think it would work with black ones.

I’ve had far too many cars which black wheels.

Lovely car. I think I saw this one awaiting collection at Bristol Porsche when it was brand new.

A good friend has one in the same colour with silver wheels. He gets loads of positive comments from people in it.

Yes, they are quite rare on the 718 platform. I nearly had a GT3 RS in UV a number of years back and loved the colour since.
