I thought I would post this despite the fact that the forum does not seem to get too much traffic.

I have had my GP I for a number of years now and orginally bought it at close of play in 2011 at ~25,000 miles. It now stands at some 75,000 miles. Over the years there have been the usual consumables such as brakes, tyres, wipers and servicing. In addition to this I did renew the screws that hold the spoiler in place as these had rusted. Oh and the chain tensioner as a bit of a rattle appeared soon after I flew over a hump back bridge.

More recently however I had had to replace the following (in order of failure):

Button on key fob - DiY new battery ordered and soldered in

Exhaust - pipes on rear box broke at the weld point - MILLTEK replacement

Windscreen - crack appeared on the R side of the screen - Autoglass

Power steering pump - car would not switch off due to this error and so usual bits were replaced even though I did say please just replace the PSP (namely ingition switch and battery)

Rear suspension* - initially went for KWs but after loads of being messed around with dates I just bought some cheap Pro-Sport (KWs may go on at a later date)

All of this in the last 6-8 months. Probably not bad for an 18 year old car.

That said I still love her to bits. She is nice and comparitively small so ideal for parking on busy roads but still sporty so ideal for our congested and busy roads. I am wondering what everyone else has done about their suspension assuming Cooper S JCW have had the same replacement issues.

I should probably add that my car has been pretty much garaged for the entire time that I have owned her and I have taken her for a couple of laps on the Nordscheliefe.

  • Suspension is now NLA (no longer available although it is manufactured by Delphi)

The jcw suspension fitted to the GP wasn’t fitted as standard to any other r53. It was only available as an option from the jcw catalogue.

But presumably just the spring rates were different - ? Oh and of course the conical washers are required for the aluminium arms but are part of the make up of the GP suspension.
