Sat Nav in the later models

I bought a 2023 car last week and set the multimedia for Android Auto but a few times I've driven and not bothered to plug my phone in and have found the onboard Sat Nav surprisingly good.
It appears to be pretty much up to date with Speed Cameras and today saw a few that were only put in place a few months ago, long after the car was put together.
It saw heavy traffic too.
What is it updating from?
I've read on forums of people buying the latest maps on SD cards and installing it in the slot under the central console but I don't appear to have one.
Is this because the later Sat Navs have a connection. The car itself says it's using a 4g Vodaphone system.
I have also found that the My Alpine app connects to the car and I can see where it has been parked on a map. Pretty useful if it goes walkabout plus you can look up destinations on your phone and send them to the car.
Later, when you get into the car to drive, the destination is ready on the Sat Nav, no faffing, just get going

On my 2022 GT there are various 'Over the Air' automatic updates which are included with the car for the first three years.It appears to be pretty much up to date with Speed Cameras and today saw a few that were only put in place a few months ago, long after the car was put together.

If you look on the My Alpine App under 'Contracts' you can see what's included, like Auto Updates, Telemetrics or Smart Navigation and when they expire.
I find the on board navigation system works quite well.

The app shows where you were the last time your phone was connected to the car, so it's good for finding your car in a large car park but isn't really a tracker.
It does indeed seem that the built in nav for later cars is a pretty good system. I couldn’t find anything specific to Alpine but the relevant Renault page is here https://www.renault.co.uk/renault-connect/connecte...

For those travelling to France, it is worth noting that devices warning the driver about the presence of speed cameras are illegal, with use punishable by an on the spot fine. Whether the law is enforced is not clear: French motorways appear lightly policed -I have seen no police presence on my recent trips. I was keen to see whether the My Alpine app locator did, in fact, act like half a tracker in that it would show the location of the car when parked up, even in the absence of the phone. So, I left my phone at home and drove the car a hundred yards down the road, walked back home and opened the app. Sure enough, the car was located where I’d parked it, much further down the road.
Like I say, it was a very quick test but it does seem that, in the event some scrote takes the car and parks it up somewhere, the app will show the last parked location even if the phone/app wasn’t connected when driven off.
