Any recommended US to UK importers?
Discussion
Hey guys, so I have been deliberating the next daily for a long time and always keep ending back up at a Challenger, I’ve had a couple when out in the states and love them, I’m also no stranger to LHD US cars in the UK with my C6 Corvette and ‘69 Mustang.
So when looking at Challengers, it’s substantially cheaper to buy one from the US(Inc duty, Vat and shipping), plus a larger market to choose from. I have family out in the US so I can happily buy one out there on a visit but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of companies over here that can take care of everything(shipping and tax wise) port to port?
Thanks in advance.

Appreciate the link, but they are a west coast US business, if it’s a US business, it would ideally be an east coast one(it’s usually Austin, Texas that I spend time in), although a UK based business would be preferable.Be careful of wanting to use the Challenger as a daily. There are only a handful of insurers in the UK that will insure these cars and all demand a limited mileage policy. Definately get a quote BEFORE buying your car. There’s been a few people lately who have shipped over Challengers and then found they haven’t been able to get insurance!
I imported my Challenger from the US (and have imported a previous car from the US) and used Kingstown Shipping on both occasions. They are a highly recommended shipper on the US car forums in the UK.
Whatever you do, do NOT use Shipmycar! So many horror stories.
Fell free to PM me and I can offer any advice or answer questions. I help run the Dodge Challenger Owners Club UK and the Facebook page.

For balance I used shipmycar and no problems whatsoever, as have several other Challenger owners. I imported my Challenger from the US (and have imported a previous car from the US) and used Kingstown Shipping on both occasions. They are a highly recommended shipper on the US car forums in the UK.

I’ve heard of cars damaged in transit and had a friends car damaged. Although that could happen to anybody. It’s the conversions they do that’s terrifying. The dodgy, hacked and botched electrics that I’ve personally seen….just frightening. So many horror stories about them all over the American car pages in the UK!
If you have had your electrics done by them, I would highly recommend getting them checked. You don’t want your pride and joy catching fire!

I used Ship My Car admittedly - during the covid era. Feb/Mar of 2021. I collected the car in October 2021.
- I ended up having to arrange the movement of the car from the sellers house myself, as they still hadn't after 6 weeks "waiting for a better price",
- They told me it was still at port in UK being delayed and awaiting unloading even though the port confirmed that the container was released a week prior.
- Charged £500 for cutting the outer brake light wires, and inner indicator wiring, and 2x RHD headlights (67, so less modification overall...)
- MOT and spotted a leaking brake hose, but not the absolutely shagged master cylinder.
- Only found out they had finally unloaded the car when I saw them post it on their Instagram
