I clearly don't do enough shouting, and seeing the wife swap therad, made my mind up

In order to join in the "did you see, blah blah state of the nation" threads, I've decided I need to get a TV ariel

any tips ??, I guess it needs to be digtal or something

nope. an ordinary good quality 'analogue' aerial will pick up freeview digital programming.

look to spend about £250 (inc fitting) for a good one with quality cabling.

I've got a home cinema set up but haven't really got round to getting a tuner, and the house hasn't got an ariel

Been without for 3 months now and can't say I've really missed it

Back to the original point

So what's the difference between an analoge and digital then, what are the different things you can pick up with either

I paid £75 for a Good one fitted, the enormous one that drags in analogue pictures from Lincolnshire was fitted by OnDigital and cost me £25 and would have been £150.

You can get digital through a normal aerial.

Ask the man what he recommends for your location, not for the kit, it will make little difference.

See gold plated leads.

the cable he uses will make a difference.

double copper insulated is best (not expensive - Sky use it in their installs)

means less interference = better picture and sound.

Just had a quote

digi ariel
9db amp
4 way signal splitter

£350

That doesn't sound like a bargain to me

you dont need the amp and you only need a 4 way splitter if you are planning on watching tv like grandad from only fools and horses.

(granted you may have 4 tv's but I find that unlikely)

Well I've got one int lounge one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom, and could easily imagine one in aother bedroom

The last time we had a ariel fitted it had an amp too, could it be that it's just a shitty area

Depends on where you are as to whether you need the amp

Cheers, so the ariel bloke who came round probably knows best

I'll get another quote anyway, but it's always nice to be armed with the facts

Amp doesnt have to be at the aerial though.

You could source, supply and fit that yourself, thus keeping costs down...

Better quality if it's at the ariel end rather than the other end of the wire though I'd imagine
