'17 Forester. Cant remove IGN key

Hi Chaps. Not mine. Friend is having issues removing his IGN key. 2017 Forester. Can't turn it to the OFF position so is resorting to disconnecting battery and locking with spare key. Is this a common fault? Any suggestions before he takes it to dealer?

It's likely to be a problem with the switch that tells the ignition barrel that the car is in Park.

He could fix the switch.

Or just remove the wire from the ignition barrel like this...........

Excellent response! Thanks so much. I thought in may have been an issue with the steering lock and the steering wheel position, but this makes more sense. Will remove the plug in the short term and investigate the trans selector switch later. Great help mate!
