ceramic coating on exhaust manifolds
Discussion
Anyone considered this? i was looking into it and got a really good quote, surely if it's as good as people say it is, (Cooler engine bay by up to 30% and better performance too) surely its a no brainer as a lot of issues with these cars are due to hot engine bay, I just got to get the manifolds off. I got a quote from a place in Essex for £160 quid a side, obviously plus carriage and someone to take them off for me
wow yeah it does look good, well it's supposed to be f1 technology isn't it, it's also supposed to direct the gasses out the exhaust better too, hence the better performance, as log as its not too much of a pain to get the manifolds off, bare in mind they been on there 24 years most probably I'll get mine done, what did you pay if you don't mind me asking and where?

Mine was lumped in with the body off..so I’m not exactly sure cost wise..but £160 each side sounds reasonable to me!
oh right ok, yeah place in oxford quoted £750 plus vat and a place in Essex said no more than 160 quid a side, so 320 the pair, obviously plus other costsOnce my Speed 6 manifolds are back from the welders (new sensor bosses) they are heading off to Performance 1 for coating. £400 plus VAT inc collection and delivery.for both. Had other parts done by them previously and seen improvements in under bonnet temps. Of course that heat moves down the exhaust which could be an issue while stationary for long periods.

That is where the performance gains are isn't it? the gasses are forced out the exhaust quicker so I believe, not a very technical explanation, but it's supposed to be something along those linesHad then done on my 3000m by Performance 1, maybe 8 years ago now, so impressed I got the speed six manifolds done for my Tuscan, yet to put them through any anger but have high hopes. Performance 1 using zircotec coatings now, they used my Tuscan in one of their consumer write ups. £380 I think I paid.
Is the Essex based guy in Maldon? Using cerakote?
If so i used him for a pair of stainless manifolds. I had been looking at zircotec but the price was double unfortunately. 2 different types of coating though.
Picture shows the stainless manifolds in black with the plasma coat option. My reason was to help reduce temperature under the bonnet to help reduce fuel evaporation from the carburettors. I’ve no idea if it works but the manifolds look great

Yes think so, the other I found was based in Oxfordshire and were loads dearer If so i used him for a pair of stainless manifolds. I had been looking at zircotec but the price was double unfortunately. 2 different types of coating though.

I got mine done on a Griff 500 about 8 years ago. They were done in a semi-gloss grey finish called, I think, "Cermachrome" by a company that I don't think is still trading. I sold the car to a friend of mine about 6 years and they still look as good today as when they were done.
I'm convinced, I must get this done, great pics guys, buts my banger to shame, but I haven't long had it I guess, the project hasn't really started yetsimonwedge said:

macdeb - did you do a thread on here detailing your Chimaera ownership and upgrades? I’d love to read about everything that you did.
Hi, thanks. I didn't do one thread on it, more of a few updates over the years. It did appear in 'sprint' before I upped the boost and twice at the NEC. I converted the gearbox from T5 to a TKO600 as when I spoke with gearbox specialists they very honestly said they couldn't guarantee to last my intended torque, which increased further to 610 lb. There is a thread on the latter in major mods section 'converting RV8 to TKO600' from memory, with twin plate clutch modified prop-shaft and 'Dave Mac' unbreakable drive shafts. Briefly engine was top hatted block, forged pistons, mls gaskets, roller rockers, flowed and ported, fully balanced, megasquirt 2, intercooled turbo with adjustable boost buttons in steering wheel, thermostat controlled oil coolers (dual), bigger brakes, adjustable suspension, lots and lots more, etc, etc. 573hp/610lb (apologies to OP for slight deviation).Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
