Afternoon all,

following a bit of a balls up regarding the refitting of a timing chain tensioner to a 2008 E320CDi I'm looking for someone local (will need to get the car recovered but any mobile guys would be a bonus) that can helicoil or timesert a fix for me. Basically when re-inserting the tensioner, they have stripped the first bit of thread from the head and then stopped and not gone any further so i'm hoping its not too far gone for a fix to be applied prior to needing a second hand head etc

I can have the car recovered somewhere if needed but will have to arrange etc.

thanks in advance.

Was it you, a friend or a garage who was doing the work on the car? If a garage, can they not fix it?

Unfortunately garages are sometimes reluctant to get involved in such ongoing dramas/unfortunately the below may apply!

JCR (https://www.jcr-leeds.com/) are based in Crossgates and claim to specialise in VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, BMW & Mercedes. I haven't used them but they were very helpful when I phoned for some advice on a Haldex query and I may consider using in future for my Skoda, even though location not the most convenient for me.

Whoever you decide to use, I suggest just explaining the problem and asking their view on best way forward/if they could assist.

Good luck and please report back how you get on. Feel free to provide recommendation on any garage has been helpful as this may also assist others in the future.

thanks for the suggestion. I've used JCR quite a lot over the years and always found them to be decent. Just recently they completed a ZF/Transfer box and Diff service on my A7.

I've found a place in Rotherham that are collecting my car on a flatbed, will sort the issue out and build everything back up for me for a fair price. So a bit further afield than i would have liked but them arranging collection has taken that part of the puzzle out of my hands. They come well recommended and have decent reviews so we will see. I'll have the work done and then post back up the outcome and my findings. thumbup
