I'm about to buy my first Aston Martin (a 2016 Vantage) from a main dealer and am being offered a number of paint production products/services: Gtechniq Platinum; ProTechIV (PPF/Detailing). I wouldn't normally go for such things; but, should I do so for the Aston? Grateful for any and all thoughts!

Personally I'd not bother. You could probably get a better deal with a better result by using a detailer. If they apply stuff on the old paint then you won't get as good a result as you could.

If you're curious, have a word with Francis (Paddy328) - he may even cover your area. I've no skin in the game other than Francis has detailed my V8V twice

Agree 100%
Easy decision.

Francis recently did a fantastic job for me.
I refused the dealers offer of all the numerous add-ons they tried to sell.

I took the deader offer when I purchased.
It was Gtechniq and I must say I was blown away how good it looked on collection

And still to this day I am pleased with it

Thanks for the replies and the recommendations to use Francis. I'll take a look at his website.

Another vote for Francis (Paddy) ... While I have not had my car detailed by him, I have seen him working on cars and spoken with him at length about detailing work. He does a lot of work over at Aston Installations for them and their clients and have to say he appears to know his stuff.

From memory I think he lives over in the Wentworth/Virginia Water area but travels around.

I took up the offer of the Gtechniq detail when I bought my Rapide S. I only went for the external "detail" only and i was happy with it at the time (i think it was £500 from memory after a bit of haggling and you get a Carwash kit worth about £100). However, i have since had a Level 3 Detail at Topaz and that was next level stuff. Cant recommend that enough. Next time I will just send it straight to Topaz (c.£2k)

Hey, thanks for the mention guys. I’d be happy to have a chat. Call me on 07909541048. Mainly because of this forum, I’m the most experienced Aston detail in the country and even if you don’t decide to use me, I can give you advice in any way I can.

Firstly, unless the car is new or has very little stone chips, then I wouldn’t bother with PPF. It will stop further damage, but you’re locking in the defects that are already there. I would suggest the car is machine polished and then have a ceramic coating applied after. Dealer prep is never close to what an experienced detailer can do. Mainly because of the time as much as anything else.

Thanks all. I think the car will need something to protect it, as it'll be living outside.

Francis, thanks for the advice, which makes great sense. If all goes well and I get my hands on the car, I'll be in touch!

Good evening all,

I’ve recently got myself back into another V8 Vantage (2018 AMR in Scintilla silver) and as you would expect I love it!

My car has a full PPF applied from new, which is great as this has protected the car very well for the 12k miles the car has done.

Would anyone be able to recommend any products or cleaning regimes to continue to protect the PPF and also keep the car looking fantastic. Am unsure of any reactions with previous products I used to maintain my previous Vantage that was ceramic coated.

Really appreciate any advice - thanks in advance

You can use anything you want on a car with PPF, other than spraying it with tar removed. You can use it locally with a cloth and rinse off to remove tar spots, but you don’t want it getting under the film.

So, tell me what you would typically use when cleaning the last car.

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch, previously I used the products supplied with a gen-300 ceramic detailing kit, which included ceramic shampoo etc.

Only had the new car a week so hasn’t been cleaned thoroughly by myself yet. Did use a very sparing amount of Autoglym shampoo and warm water, followed by drying with microfibre cloths after last run out.

Would be good to get some product recommendations you think would be good to use going forward.

Thanks very much!

I have had my gen 2 Vanquish for almost 5 yrs. I had PPF installed after I bought it, I have done 45000KLms in her and decided to repaint the hood as it was looking a bit chipped so I had the PPF removed to do so.
Guess what there was only 1 stone chip in the whole bonnet the PPF had done its job so I had the chip repaired had the bonnet buffed and cleaned put new PPF on it and it was like new. It cost less than repainting and I can't recommend it enough.
The new PPf's are even better, they have more Hydrophobic properties are better at self healing are a better gloss and clarity.
I had what they call a racing protection which is the whole front, mirrors, roof, rear guard impact areas and side sills plus headlights.
well worth the $$.
