BMW 740Li 2015 - Suspension Lowers O'night
Discussion
Hi
I would really appreciate if any fellow member can help me please.
I recently purchased this 2015 740Li Petrol, only 23k. When the car is parked for two nights in the morning it is literally sitting on its suspension. When I open the driver's door it clicks up and returns to the normal height.
I was told this was a feature possibly as the first owner was a London Embassy.
I don't know if there is a setting off the drive/ECU to revert to 'normal' or if I have a fault.
When it is raised up in the morning it stays this way all day so there is no real benefit.
Thanks in advance for any help or where I should post elsewhere.
Thanks
John

Could be an ECU setting or a small leak in the air system - probably at or near the compressor if it's affecting all four corners.
If it was an ECU setting I'd expect it to lower at ignition off every time. Only after sitting for two days would suggest a leak.
But raising up when you open the driver's door is weird. If there was some sort of comfort entry I'd expect the ride height to raise only when occupant(s) had entered.

For sure sounds like an air leak.
As for the behaviour of the car raising once unlocked and the door opened, that's completely normal.
If it's anything like it's cheaper BMW counterparts, the leak will likely be from one of the air bags. They are a serviceable item and on a 2015, it's getting to that age where some things need attention. That being said, if the whole car is dropped on its bump stops, I would think that the issue may be elsewhere.

Very much doubt it is an Embassy spec feature. Is it all 4 corners?
Sounds like airbags. Happened on my X5. Initially it was just one side and I'd come out to the car sitting squint but progressed to both rears.
I'll presume this is a G11 7 series, the air suspension can settle by up to 2mm in any 24hr period up to a max of 60mm if left long enough say 30 days, the system isn't totally air tight, but if you're seeing it slammed after a day or 2 then there would appear to be an at fault leak in the system.
