I have to say I'm in agreement with this, accepting that there are issues around enforcement and concepts of free speech and that mainstream media seems more accepting of swearing both pre and post watershed.

As an example, we have a skatepark near us and there is often a mix of kids there aged maybe 8 or 9 to 16 ish. The younger kids often look wide-eyed when the older kids use an F word every other word and have no self awareness or humility whatsoever.

Similarly, the number of people you hear swearing in groups that are outside pubs is significant, even when there are other family groups around.

The coarsening of public spaces and levels of unacceptable behaviour have grown significantly over the past 10 years or so and any reverse of this is a good thing in my view.

Yet another rule that says 'Look! we are doing something about antisocial behaviour'

Except there's no-one around to enforce it.

Like making mobile phone use in cars 6pts instead of 3pts.

Carry a knife, then 5 years in prison.

Etc etc

What would you suggest?

I think more 'beat' police are needed.

We have a cricketer who’s partial to lots of sweary words.
When in the pub after a match we have a swear fines system and it seems to have stifled him somewhat.

Just employ one to follow Brian Blessed around. You could probably fund another 20 that way.

Parents. End of.

Same with many ills at the moment.

My 9yr old is well aware of the various "words"... He has friends at school with older brothers who seem to be more potty mouthed than most adults I know. But he knows categorically he is not to use/repeat them.

For now, fear of getting caught is sufficient.

Now, if we could introduce fines for parents... Kids swearing, not going to school, making dicks of themselves at school etc we might get somewhere. Will never happen though, so prepare to continue to see ineffectual rubbish like this forever.

Game I played the other week the oppo team had a very vocal player who every ball was shouting encouragement and trying to the gee up the team. Another player ( same side) down at fine leg shouted to him "can you just the fk up for a couple of overs".

Made me laugh, sometimes you need the swear words.

Don't agree with fining people for having a potty mouth. Also is there a list of words. What level are we setting it at.

I don’t have a problem with it in a match.

However, our player seems to take a particular fancy to the C bomb - imo not on in a pub full of people.

Yes, I have 'kids' and grandkids. If I heard them swearing in public they would be in trouble!
