Well I need to choose a new car for the company....and it shows my distinct lack of experience or knowledge of the market now.

Parameters are for BIK purposes it seems hybrid/EV is the way to go.

Its an asset so can be either be bought nearly new or leased - parameters are;

- for private use it needs to lug paddleboards/kids/junk/tips
- If its EV have a decent range as it will do round trips of 300 miles weekly for the business
- If its hybrid combined economy is important, I think for BIK it has to have a minimum range of 120 miles to fall into the lower bracket.

Short list at mo is -

Volvo V60 T6 re-charge - concerned about petrol MPG and slow charging
Volvo Ex30? - might be a tad small
EV6 KIA - might be a bit big, I find the rear styling challenging

VW doesnt quite seem to have the range required or BMW but I could be looking at wrong stats.

Ford Explorer? 374 mile WLTP, so should be able to do 300 in reality.

The EV6 would get my vote as would the new Explorer.

Thanks guys hadnt spotted the explorer!

The EV6 is on the shortlist, if it wasnt for the dire dealer locally I would have driven one by now.

Pickup truck?

Get all the VAT back and IIRC, flat rate £4k BIK and the company can pay for personal fuel too with only a flat personal fuel charge. I think it’s about £3600 BIK.

Thanks folks - some good suggestions.

Went to see the EX30 - too small and the XC60 isn't yet fully EV or BIK friendly.

KIA inevitably was Arnold Clark who treated us with the usual contempt.

Pickup is out - we ran them for a while, good for BIK but it creates some other problems I wont go into.

Re the pickup, yeah in some ways they are great, in some not so much. The newest ones do drive a lot better and whilst they’re very practical in some ways, in others they’re not.

There are some other commercials that can be used - transit or Transporter crew van, bit trickier in ensuring they are definitely classed as commercial for BIK though.

Fully loaded MB EQA 250+ 2024 model with <3k miles is up for just under £40k at MB - given it's a buyer's market, you could probably negotiate a healthy discount off that price

Did this not get scrapped on the 1st July?

E-tron is on my list and there one is local so going to have a look - I may sneak in the XC60 recharge as 12 month old its taking a hit in depreciation BIK is a bit higher mind but hybrid would be more useful.

Annoyingly the Seat/VW estate offerings are still in the higher brackets due to range yet.

Nah there was uproar from farmers, builders and professional pickup users (and all the tax dodging contractors and caravan daggers).

“Mike” the chancellor folded like a five dollar hooker after a punch.

Skoda Enyaq 85 may be worth a look. Seem to be well supported by manufacturer currently so deals to be had.

Good shout

Lists now

Enyaq 85
Ionic 5
Q4 - Etronic
XC60 T6
KIA EV6

The new Tiguan hybrid would be an option but long lead times and pricing puts it out - the above are quite good value @ 6-12 months old.

Merc is out - hearing far to much about their software and local dealer was abysmal when I popped in.
