All, I can’t find an existing thread for this event.
I’m into old F1 and LeMans type sports cars (‘70’s to ‘90’s mainly)
Also looking at any general sports/racing cars in the paddock.
What is it like? Is access to the cars decent? Where is a good place for on-track photography?
I used to go to Silverstone a lot in the past for historic meetings and Grand Prix, but not since the pits were moved from after Woodcote (probably decades ago).
Is this meeting derived from the old Christie’s/Coys International Historic Festivals? Is it the same kind of thing?
In terms of cars present, how does it compare with FoS? We went this year and loved it. Keen to get another fix.

I've been to this event every year it has been on since the 1991 Coys Historic Festival.
Access to the competing cars has been second to none, until last year when they tried to bring in some measures to stop people wandering into the pit garages. However, by the end of the meeting, everything was back to normal. I didn't see any spectator barriers at the wing, but there were barriers on the old pit garages on Friday. Not on all of the old pit garages on Friday though.
The meeting is derived from the Coy's Historic events, but is now also a 'Family Fun Day' kind of event.
The races are similar to how they have always been, but with some more modern stuff creeping in.

I have been going to this event for a good few years.
Its great fun and has a really wide variety of cars both on and off track.

In terms of photography on track, its quite tricky if you are not a member of accredited media, the track is F1 grade and as such has plenty of intrusive fencing which can make grabbing pics tricky from the public areas.

Are the paddocks / pits open during the event?
Yes, the paddocks are open to the public throughout the event. All visitors to Silverstone Festival should take extra care and keep a good watch in all directions as the paddocks are live working areas and there will be race cars and support vehicles moving continuously throughout the paddock. Please stay behind the viewing barriers at the assembly area.
For your safety, access to the pit garages and pit lane is restricted to working teams and competitors but all doors to the pit garages remain open providing plenty of opportunity to see the cars and talk to the drivers and race preparers.

The last meeting I went to like this (probably Coys in the late '90s or something like that) I had a media pass, so access wasn't an issue. What I found at these types of event was that a lot of cars were in front of the garages in the pit lane, with no public access to that side. Plenty in the paddock of course, but it seemed to be pot luck. This would only be the second event I've been to without a media pass, and nothing at all for about 15 years, so I'm very out of date with how things are these days. This time I'd be with the family too.
BTW are the "old" pits used, or is it the new "wing" pits for this meeting? Do you park outside the circuit and walk in, or is there infield parking? I'm guessing ony external parking for public.

Both the 'old' pits and the Wing pits are used. It tends to be morning races (old pits Formula Juniors etc. and generally smaller motorhomes) afternoon races (Masters F1 etc. and very large and expensive motorhomes)Drivers who have cars in both have to drive up and down the link road with all the other traffic. This traffic includes push bike, pit bikes, quads pulling tyre trolleys, VIP transport and the like.
There are free buses to take you between the two pits, and other stops, as well as the whole of the outer perimeter road.
They used to use some old Routemasters, and it was strange to be sat on one of those, whilst being overtaken by a Lister Jaguar, or whatever.
You park outside the circuit and walk in, after you've had your bag searched and had the anxiety of wondering whether your 'e-ticket' will scan properly or not. Most of this doesn't apply to public who are driving into the infield car club stands, which I can never understand.
There is infield parking for displaying car club drivers. Yes, public parking is outside.

One of our group has just dropped out so annoyingly I've now got one full weekend adult ticket available (Fri, Sat & Sun). Don't want to waste it, so it can be yours for £75 - the same price as a single day ticket and half of the full weekend ticket.

They did it for me last year after I whinged about their app (it didn't (doesn't?) let you skip entering non-essential personal data, which is in breach of GDPR), and they did it without trouble for the British GT earlier this year. For the Festival I got the 'computer says no' and kept pushing.
Still not got my programme voucher though.
