I brought this up last year and unsurprisingly i am still seeing cyclists riding around at night without lights.Now i know that lots of you are now going to say that you ride around at night lit up like a Christmas tree but your not the problem.The problem is the ones who ride in the middle of the road one either side of the white line meaning one is on the wrong side of the road and neither has any lights.The only saving grace is that most of the ones i have seen lately are riding on an empty pavement and no i don't hate cyclists i just don't want to run them over.

Ok, sorry, I will pass this message on to others for youIf you are seeing them, then it's no issue isn't it. If you see something then you shouldn't hit it. I admit they are in the wrong, they are f

But as others have mentioned, a high % of cars on the road aren't insured, no MOT and plenty drivers don't have a licence and yet they continue to drive around and no one bothers. I'm pretty sure if you hadn't put it on a forum that you see loads of cyclists without lights, then went on to hit one you'd have a good argument in getting off any charges. But now it's up here for posterity and if you do now happen to hit one, you can't say you didn't know about cyclists without lights.

I still see cyclists without light sometimes. But in a well lit city and in the cycling lanes (normally), I don't find it such a nuisance. I did have a couple of surprises with cyclists wearing dark clothing, no reflectors, no lights and in a street with little lighting, but that is more rare.They do exist and if they don't care about their own safety (or can't afford it), then we'll just have to be even more vigilant when cycling/driving. Just that.
Oh dear. Let me just call an all cyclists club meeting to have a stern word with everyone.
I got overtaken by an Audi the other day while in my car, who then went to overtake just about everyone on the road in a very aggressive and dangerous manner. Could you please call a meeting with the all motorists club meeting to give him a slap on the wrist as well please?

This drives me insane! If you try a reasoned discussion with a non cyclist, every last one of them will bring up no lights/helmet/5 abreast/road tax/cycle lanes/you know the score. But if you point out that 85 people a day are killed or seriously injured on our roads, they glaze over, or ask how many were caused by the victims? You mention traffic problems, but it's never something they could do anything about. You mention trying to make not using cars for every journey, even the quarter mile ones, more attractive to more people, and somehow you are asking them to cut a leg off or live in a cave.Why does this not happen with drivers?

It does to a degree; white can drivers, taxis, buses, they all get a bad rep, but they are not all equally bad.Why does this not happen with drivers?
OP just expressed something, no need to go on the attack and whataboutisms. It doesn't mean all cyclists do this, it obviously refers to the ones who don't and tries to open a conversation.
In fact it does make me wonder as well, why don't some cyclists use lights? We are the vulnerable ones compare to other means of transport, why put your life into a driver's hands? Light and reflectors are mandatory I believe (although I am guilty myself of not having reflectors).

I would be the last person to defend any driver knowingly driving without road tax,licence,MOT or insurance.The thing with lights though is that car lights tend to come in pairs plus you normally have side and headlights.Also the very nature and size of cars makes them far more visible at night even without lights and even when i had both headlamps blow on the M20 one time i still of course had my side lights.Cycle lights tend to be singular front and rear without which you become almost invisible in the dark.The last time i saw a biker using lights was actually this afternoon at about 2pm so in broad daylight.As somebody else on here has said it will always be but this is a forum for expressing concerns as well as having a rant.Edited by oldagepensioner on Thursday 22 August 17:22
