I spoke with my insurance - as the car has been considered not worth repairing - they want me to send them the car documents and only after they will make me 'an offer' for settling the claim.

How does this sound to you ????
What could happen if I won't like the 'offer' ?

PS I'll leave the spun-on-wet accident story for another time (suffice to say that it happened on the Continent in the middle of the night, and the undrivable car has been brought back to the UK by the insurance - very efficient so far),

Standard practice as the vehicle entitlement becomes theirs once they make payment.

Also, would you offer £X,000's without being in possession of the full facts.

Nothing to worry about here.

My advice is to agree a settlement figure with your insurance company before you let them take the car..
This would leave you in a stronger position to get the max amount for your car..(for example if it is in a bodyshop it will be mounting storage at a minimum £15 per day)
once the insurance company have removed your car you will have no strength to barter ..
do not accept there first offer!!!!!

You have a reasonable amount of room for negotiating a figure with them, which ultimately will be subject to the Financial Ombudsman Service should you be unhappy with their valuation.
