Pre holiday disaster!

This is clearly a stupid question, but I'm a little desperate...
I'm driving to France on Sunday (2 days from now) and last night the check engine light came on. I manged to get the car looked at and it has the following faults:
282B00 - EGR rate control - flow rate low
24CF00 - Air Mass measured too low
The garage suggested that this "indictaes a blocked valve and cooler and replacmnets are advised" At £895+VAT, but there's no way to get this done before Sunday
So my question. Is this a deal breaker? Could the car properly breakdown or will it just not run efficiently?
There's been no loss of performance or fuel efficiency, no engine noises, shudders at all.

Did you tick the insurance box on your crossing? Had the same thing happen a few years ago, and had a brand new hire car to smoke about it for the holiday.
Taking the shuttle, and I don't remeber seeing that as an option tbh. Maybe something to look into with breakdown cover and/or holiday insurance Possum19 said:

Mot guy gets loads through telling them to do this, of course profit on the stuff too
They don,t clean them very well, enough to keep them going light free long enough for a holiday. Take a bottle with you.
Or take off the EGR and clean it, checking for broken pipes as you do.

I definately don't have the skillset to fix it myself, got to be honest with myself!

My F30 is having a similar problem. Chap at the local garage said the egr was fairly clean when inspected (it had the cooler/egr replaced under recall two years ago) but they found a split pipe. Just waiting for the pipe to arrive, I'm hoping this is the problem!
This. Fault codes can often be a side effect of a different cause.My 2016 330d threw the same faults, but ISTA reported a bad pre-cat O2 sensor. Replaced that and it's been fine ever since. Likewise, my EGR valve and cooler are spotless as they were replaced under recall a couple of years ago.
ISTA really is a must with BMWs. Bimmerlink didn't flag the faulty O2 sensor at all. In my case, the Air mass fault was because the engine was running too lean, therefore not drawing in the expected amount of air.
Worth mentioning if there are EGR fault codes in the permanent error memory, you won't get any DPF regens, so that will clog up as well.
Don't take the car on a long road trip without sorting it first is my advice!

My 2016 Euro 6 diesel £1500 Mokka has had an EGR code for 18 months, out on loan at the moment, the EML comes and goes with the weather, literally, hot day, less dense air and on it comes, been through two mots with no emission issues, I just turn the light off if it is on at mot day.No driving issues at all.
Just a thought, how old is the car, more importantly the battery ? A very slight drop in voltage can play havoc with sensors, I kid you not, have fixed a faulty auto box, simply by changing the battery.
If you noticed a loss of power it would be a different story, Forte is you best bet.

It's a 2012 F31 BMW 320d 83k miles, running absolutely fine, it's had the timing chain done as the classic major fault with these. I did have the air condenser replaced and air con recharged 2 days ago...my hope was that was somehow causing the light to come on!In your time frame, and not mechanically minded, do the first suggestion, the only other choice is getting the EGR mapped out.

Check the battery, or possibly the aircon guys left things on and drained it a little.You have tried turning the lights off ? If so, do it again after a run and charged battery.
Are the aicon acess points aceesible without removing intake pipes?

Battery should be ok, it had an hours run back after the air con install…I think I have a battery measuring thing so will double check tomorrow. You have tried turning the lights off ? If so, do it again after a run and charged battery.

With regards to pipes, I’ve had a very uneducated look and. I can’t see anything loose. 82k miles in a diesel and o guess EGR nonsense isn’t abnormal…I won’t even bore you with the nightmare my old Mazda 6 was 😔

Battery, not charging rate, yep, EGR nonsense is par for the course.

I assume you’ve had the egr cooler/valve replaced under the recall. Mine is on its third after two recalls. Just out of interest, was the timing chain rattling for you to have it replaced?_Hoppers said:

The car HARD stalled and then wouldnt start, totally out of the blue. RAC recovered it and the garage diagnosed the timings chain and an electrical issue which was preventing any power at all getting to the car.Some quick maths this morning and I realise that if I replace the EGR etc the car will have cost £4,915 in repairs since Feb when it was puirchased for £7,000...thank god for the warrenty. Might need to get rid though!
