After my recent no fuel pump prime issues, seemingly resolved with new fuses, ignition amp & unplugging of the ECU, I now have ignition. Yay!! However, after approx 1 minute the revs drop and the engine cuts out. Even with my foot on the accelerator maintaining 1500rpm it just fades out……sound similar to anybody? What should I be looking at next? All help much appreciated obviously ….

Coil?

Then maybe get RoverGauge onto it - take a look at Andy70’s journey, he’s hopefully getting closer to solution.

RG will see what the sensors and fuelling are up to.

Where are you based?

First off what are you losing fuel or spark?

After a little research I checked the stepper motor…it was only mounted hand tight 😳 So I took it out, cleaned it and remounted it… tight but carefully. The car seems to be fine now. Dare I risk taking it out of the garage and enjoying the good weather ????

Interesting…
Mine is only firmly hand tight, with a single layer of ptfe tape.
Hopefully the cleaning has helped…

I doubt the stepper is the issue, sounds like your losing ignition but thats just a guess, if you have been fiddling around the coil area check all the connections are tight.
Dont overlook the replacement amp as most are garbage.
Fuel pump is obviously another culprit but not sure what you have done to this?

The fuel pump seems fine, I checked and cleaned the contacts. I replaced the ignition amp plus it’s cable and now, after cleaning and reattaching the stepper all appears to be well. It starts first time, maintains its tick over rpm and no longer dies. It’s been for a short drive around the block…no issues. Now I just have to work up the courage to use it and get further than a few hundred meters from home…..

Coils, ignition amps and a number of other components including stepper, air flow meter all tend to fail when hot.
I’d get it upto temps and fans coming on/ off a number of times on the drive with bonnet down revving it and then idling until heat has done its best, at least 20mins running then take it for a local drive.
If anythings going to fail it’ll do it when hot.
Are those fuel pump connections tight and secure.
A loose stepper will lead to a very lean mix.
Could well be the reason it’s died.
It should have a fibre washer and a bit of PTFE tape around the threads won’t harm.
It should be nipped up tight enough so it can’t vibrate loose.
