Looks like I may be changing cars next year and fancy a 4wd and starting out early on research.

The Disco Sport ticks an awful lot of my boxes in that it’s the right size for me, can tow and looks decent.

I’m trying to find out if there’s any inherent problems with the petrol engined versions as I can’t find much online which is probably a good thing. I don’t do the mileage for the diesel and quite frankly, the Igneum issues are too common to ignore.

The Si4 seems good on paper so what should I be looking out for? I’m aware mpg is a bit crap but my mileage is only about 7k a year so not overly worried.

I’m used to buying French and Italian stuff so a warning light here and there doesn’t get me sweating but any owners care to share their experiences?

Ta!

The Si4 does indeed have a better reputation than that god awful diesel version and yes, you are right to stay away from that one.

However, they can still have cam chain issues and its a big old bill to replace them as well. I recently looked at a D5 with that engine (300ps version) and timing chain replacement was nearly £5k from Land Rover and depsite it being in warranty, LR refused to cover it.

I walked away from that car in the end as I found the seats to be more uncomfortable than my 2007 L322. The engine wasn't lacking though despite the weight and size of the D5. I imagine the less powered version will be fine in the DS and Velar.
