I am looking at an ND generation 2.0.

They revised the car in 2024 and pricing is quite high on them. There are plenty of 73/24 plate cars that are brand new but don't feature the revisions, they're £26-30k new, whereas the current revision is around £33k and around £35.5k in the spec that I want.

Some dealers have offered around the £33.5 mark which is a decent saving over list price on Mazda's website, but given that new old stock is nearly £8k less I can't help but feel there probably is some more movement in the price.

Several dealers have outright said no to £30k. I'd probably go for it at the £31-32k mark.

At the end of the day, it's a lot more money for not a lot more stuff (but still the one I want) and it's a 9-year-old platform that'll likely be replaced in 1-2 years max.

Am I being unrealistic with my expectations?

What sort of discount would you expect?

Have you tried getting a price through Car Wow?

As above try Car Wow.

Also is it a cash purchase or finance?

There is normally a dealer deposit allowance on the finance deals, you can clear it almost straight away and benefit from the dealer deposit.

Also at the end of the quarter dealers used to be more flexible as they used to have bonuses on the number of cars sold.

Enjoy the car, I know I did, but moved on

An Audi main dealer told me a couple of days ago that the absolute maximum discount they will give on an approved used car is £250.

Order placed for a Zircon Sand 2.0 MX-5 Homura edition with full Alcantara interior options ticked as well as a few more bits.
About £3k cheaper than the same spec on the website.

The 16-week wait has killed the excitement a little bit though.

I bought mine at the end of June - only had a 4 week wait because it was already on its way to the U.K. when I agreed the price. £2k discount; felt worth it for the Recaros and new screen as against a 2023 model Homura.

There were a few colours in my batch but if I’d wanted Soul Crystal Red I’d have had to wait much longer apparently.

I don't think the ND3 upgrades are worth the price hike, but ultimately the ND3 upgrades and Homura bits are what I want so that's why I went with it. The newer screen looks so much better and less "fisher price" than the old one, plus wireless android auto is amazing. Those BBS wheels, Recaro seats and other Homura bits are lovely though.

I went for Zircon Sand - which is a very unusual colour. The dealer said he's never sold a Mazda in that colour before, let alone an MX-5 which is probably why I have a 16-week lead time.

I like Zircon Sand but went for Aero Grey as it’s the new colour for 2024. I’m about to have mine wrapped in Atomic Teal (same as James from Throttle House’s car) because I wanted a vibrant colour and none of the factory offerings are that laugh Will see how the BBS wheels look with that; I’m tempted to get a set of Advan TC4 alloys in white as a homage to my last NA which was on white Enkeis from a mk2 JDM special edition of some sort.

Agree about the absolute value of a 2024 against a 2023 but have you seen the prices of the Recaros if you wanted to retro-fit?

Having loved my previous two NAs, I’m never intending to sell this one. I’m loving it.

Aero Grey was my second choice and the colour I saw in the showroom.

I reckon the BBS rims will pair well with Atomic Teal - great colour choice. It's a real shame the factory colour choices are so bland. As much as I do love Zircon Sand, I wish they offered some classic colours like Mariner Blue, Velocity Red, Sunburst Yellow and Highland Green.

I wish there were more colour choices for the interior, too.

My last MX-5 was an NA that I sold 9 years ago and my purchase of my ND was based on a 10-minute test drive of a 2024 ND3 RF (non-Homura).

Let's hope the car is as good as I hope and positive as your experience.

I’m sure it will be - I had a 10 minute test drive in a 2019 ND2 2.0 with cloth seats, along with a 992 GTS, Alpine A110 and Lotus Emira. And still went for the MX5; it’s more connected and mechanical, lighter and just generally more of an event to drive.

Much more civilised in some ways than an NA - on the motorway for instance - but clearly still cut from the same cloth.

It’s good to see someone else buying one in what sounds like exactly the same way I have. Enjoy it!
