I've just had this recall performed on my Evoque.
As is fairly common from what I understand, on my car the bolts snapped when they were removing them - so a brand new rack, track rod ends and various sub frame bolts were fitted. They ended up keeping the car for a week whilst waiting for replacement parts. On top of this they gave me a brand new Velar courtesy car.
I have no complaints, the dealership treated me very well but this must be costing JLR a fortune. I've since found that the faulty racks that they are replacing are supplied by Bosch, do they charge back their costs?
Just curious really, I wondered if anyone knows.

Usually the parts supplier will supply the parts and the manufacturer will pay the labour. Its technically a failure on both companies to both supply and fit the defective part, JLR engineers could have also identified the bi metallic corrosion risk. I know some manufacturers chose not to use the new design as there were concerns (the Japanese tend to be more conservative, hence better reliability as they use tried and tested parts!)

Whilst I'm happy your experience was positive, I does frustrate me that EVERY other manufacturer who used this flawed rack (Tesla and BMW being two), voluntarily recalled the cars years ago when Bosch shared there was a serious accident risk (the rack can lock up whilst the vehicle is moving) and they where issuing a recall and offering FoC replacement units.

JLR basically ignored it and deflected there was an issue, as they didn't want to stump up the labour costs. It took a FB campaign and multiple media stories before they begrudgingly initiated the campaign.

Sadly it seems to be their culture, never do the right thing, until you have exhausted all other options!
