A potted history of the VH-era Astons:

Possibly of interest to existing and prospective owners.

Found it a fairly interesting watch and learned that Aston had wanted to kill off the DB9 name, moving to another "V" with the Virage but this went down badly.

Jay Emm tries hard, but is not always correct with all his statements.

I cannot believe Dr. Bez wanted to 'kill off' the DB9 name.

The Virage was introduced to be a model between the DB9 and DBS.
However, that space betweemn models was quite small, so the Virage was considered as DB9 with some extras.
Quite a short lived model and the DB9 was subsequently updated to Virage spec..

Accuracy aside, it's a tediously intensive presentation. He uses too many words, says every third one with a capital letter and can't keep his hands still. OK for a few minutes perhaps but not half an hour. Think how any of the (old) TG presenters would do it and you'll realise the difference.

At least he genuinely seems to like his Astons, remember his strong views on McLaren..

I did wonder if he was tad on the youthful side to be buying a DB9 (especially as he generally seems much more into the sportier stuff) but of course it was for 'content' - and he seems to have realised now with his slightly ropey DBS and an N400.

He does pop in to this small corner of PH from time to time. I do sometimes find him hard work. For the older ones amongst us, the way he speaks often reminds me of a certain well travelled Alan Whicker, but I did quite enjoy that clip..(sorry film smile) At the end of the day he’s just the same as the rest of them…likes a collaborative plug, has no real allegiance to any manufacturer and needs clicks and subscribers. Having said that imho he is by no means the worst and the standard of his productions is usually very good. BRM.

I liked the video. It’s always easy to pick holes in people’s rendition of any marque’s history. My interest in VH era Vantage’s pre-dates YouTube being a big source of car content but I can see that for those who are just starting off on the journey then these days it’s where most people end up. Good to have one video that pulls a lot of content together.

I met James at the BR event he did earlier this year. Nice chap.

Yep, sound and editing perfectly good. I'd just prefer him less 'shopping channel' - he's got 30 whole minutes to luxuriate in. Progression of a YouTuber I suppose!

You're nit picking for the sake of it, he's entertaining instead of the dull dross on YT, I think the Journos move the hands. a lot so maybe he's taking a leaf from them but its not that bad. I mean he gets his point across in a fairly fun & concise way, does a good job , I always look forward to his new YT's.

I never really get the criticism he receives on PH. He's a car guy - so he is one of us, and he is very positive about Astons.
Whether or not we like his presentation style, remember that he is one of the good guys.

I just hope the recent trend of buying an average example of a car, collaborate with a specialist, and tgen sell it does become his only content.

I like JayEmm but the whole DB9 series of episodes felt like a long advert for the car he was trying to sell.

I find Mr.JWW a bit smarmy but I did enjoy watching his DBS being personalised at Works.

JayEmm would do well I think to troubleshoot, perfect & subtly upgrade his DBS with either Bamford Rose (who he does have a relationship with but I don’t care for) or another specialist then keep it.
Think Harry’s journey with his Espada & Ian Tyrell.

Much more enjoyable content IMHO.

You can be a really nice guy, but still bad at your job. I've worked with plenty of those! biggrin Doesn't make the criticism any less valid, it can just be more difficult to give out.

Presenting well and being informative, entertaing and engaging is incredibly hard to do, and not many (IMO) can do it well.

I like him, he puts a lot of effort in, drives a good variety of cars, and has a soft spot for Aston. In my quest for ownership he was my go to chap for info on getting into ownership

Harry is a different kettle of fish as he gets given cars to review that unless I win the lottery , I would never own and I am not a fan of that , I need someone who aspires to own an older second hand Aston rather than some car worth more than an ocean liner that I cannot relate to

I'm really not; I turned off after 8-9 mins because it was getting tiring to listen to and watch. I just ended up looking at his hands constantly flapping about. By trying to hold my attention too much, he lost it.

If you have one minute to get your message across, fine, go off like a sprinter, be unnaturally animated. But with 30 mins, there's really no need - unless your audience are high on Red Bull. Maybe that's it. He's got everything he needs, he just needs some direction. (I used to make my living producing corporate videos and directing people, so I do have a clue about what I'm talking about)

Did anyone here watch it all the way through in real time?

If you’re reading Jayemm..... smile

What is it you (clearly) love about Aston Martins, particularly VH cars? I ask this knowing you’re a chap whose driven absolutely all sorts and has quite the collection of Ferraris modern and semi-classic..... be interesting to hear your take; if only to justify why I should persevere with my 4.3 (even though I already want to biggrin )

I tend to watch him, and some of the other YouTube car guys, on 1.5 times speed. Mainly because it allows me to watch the video in less time but for some it can make the speech mannerisms less irritating.

If you don’t like him, don’t watch him. Simple really.

Nice he is doing a lot of Aston content.

He’s just done another video with a bit of a Frankenstein 4.3. That was also quite interesting.

Yes he complains about things that may not be relevant to everyone, especially as he has very short legs and a jolly man’s torso and the VH cars were not really designed for that physique. Hang on, maybe that’s the Ferrari fetish. smile

Overall I enjoy his stuff. It doesn’t cost me anything (aside from my YouTube premium subscription) and I happen to like looking at Astons on the big screen.

So I say thanks Jayemm. Keep up the good work.
