New Warranties for Used TVRs

New scheme to offer peace of mind to buyers

To the delight of the TVR dealer network, TVR's new Approved Warranty scheme has been launched.

The demise of Warranty Holdings last year, coupled with the uncertainty during the sale of TVR left many dealers having to seek out their own warranty solutions leaving a confusing set of options to potential buyers.

Now after seven months work by the new management team at TVR, an Approved Warranty Scheme has been launched in conjuction with Autoprotect. The "TVR Approved Warranty" will be offered by all the TVR main dealers.

It should see renewed confidence in the used market as the comprehensive warranty can be provided on any car that has passed a 101 point inspection by the dealer.

In addition to the Approved Warranty, an additional 'Wear and Tear' policy can be provided, covering the costs of repairing or replacing many parts that traditional warranties wouldn't normally cover.

I can't believe I am the first to comment on this, having read the story earlier today...

My thoughts:

1. What great news!
2. AP is who my current warranty is with, and they have been both good (paying for new shocks after 18k) and bad (not paying full labour hours). But overall good, and I would renew with them, factory approved or not.
3. More details please - what is the "wear and tear" option?
4. Please, make a commitment around engine rebuild times.

Make 3 and 4 attractive and I will be chopping in the girlfriends Audi for a T350

I am of course assuming that "wear and tear" will cover the SP6 "issues"

This is one of many things I was told about when I bought my new Tamora. The dealer was very confident that this warranty would help residuald.

Definately chop that Audi in.

As a customer, I have to say I am very happy so far...2 leaking front shocks and AP shelled out for Nitrons to replace them, but they only picked up 60% of the labour.

No complaints from me on that!

But what about the three year warranty for new cars? I'm still waiting for the paperwork and clarification about what it covers and what it doesn't. I've read many opinions on various message boards. However, when I ask dealers or the factory direct for the facts I'm told the paperwork will be sent out when it's been printed...

Very good news indeed and shows great confidence by the factory in their product. So you get three years on a new one and then can get a factory backed warranty beyond that as well. Kind of puts a kink in the argument the Speed 6 fixes are only good enough to just outlast 3year 36,000 mile warranty.
Well done TVR from one VERY happy owner.

My July 2005 Tamora manual doesn't mention the new 3 year warranty anywhere. When I contact the dealer network or the factory direct they're unable to give me a date as to when the paperwork will be available to customers.

Does this mean I can buy a private used T350 and pay to get it warrantied by Autoprotect ? And if so would that apply to early examples too...and if so would it cover a broken engine ?...hmmm maybe I will re-mortgage...

OK. Sorry, I guess they won't print a new Tam handbook now. It's in the T2 and I imagine the Sag handbook.

I think they're about 650 squids...at least that's what the dealer is quoting me for one on a used Cerb. couple of hundred more for the 'wear and tear' or 'party hearty' version...

Am interest to know cost of this & exactly what it would cover.
I mean, how much would cover cost which would pay out for a full engine rebuild ? Since that is the biggest thing which may go wrong, it would be nice to know its covered if it should go.

£650 for an official warranty is very good for a car of this calibre. I seam to recall that a Boxster and M3 extended Warranty was about £750

If you can indeed pick up a warranty for £1000 which covers 'all' eventualities, then it is indeed brilliant news.

Looks in the classifieds. You pick pick up Tuscan's & T350's dirt cheap, all because of the nagging doubt over the engines.
Sort this & residuals will indeed get better.

This is good news for the next owner of the TVR. Because as I went to swap it the dealer said that one of the biggest problems is warrantys on TVRS and that was one of the reasons they would not take it! Still problem solved as they 'moved it on' to another garage.

Ex Warranty Holdings Management coupled with some rather 'interesting' underwriting arrangements are the only comments I'd make
