Do you guys in the UK still have to go into the kiosk/shop or whatever to pay, or can you pay at the pump now?

I'm fairly late in the game in adding my credit card to my phone. But now I can just rock up to a pump, pay with my phone, fill up and go. No need to even get my wallet out now, it's so handy! I also see people doing it with their apple watch too.

Often in the UK, but I can't remember the last time I had to go to a kiosk in France, 2 or 3 years ago at least.

Round here on the North wales Shropshire border it's only the supermarkets that have pay at the pump.

You have to swap Chickens for petrol here. smile

As above, here in the North East of Scotland pay at pump is common, but the contactless pay at the pump isnt yet, so its much less faf to just get off the bike and wander into the shop with my phone to pay. I have all my cards on my phone so just tuck my licence in the back of my phone case when i'm out on the bike.

You can use contactless on a normal card? I thought you had to use the pin to authorise the £120 or whatever it is now.

Pay at pump all the way from SE Burgundy to Chimay, Belgium last month (1200km round trip), mixture of supermarkets, rural/autoroute service stations. There are still a few pay at kiosk garages in small French towns here and there.

£100 before PIN is needed (unless a random/spot-check on PIN os needed.
I pay inside, i am usually buying something else, like chocolate, anyway. It only comes round every 500 miles or so.
I’ve seen a few in North West Wales, but i cant recall which ones.

So I can buy up to £100 on contactless? I'll try it next time beer

Can also set up the Shell and BP apps, don't even need to get off the bike then!

I use the full variety, pay at pump, pay in kiosk and I'll often use cash too (but not the phone).
The big PITA for me is that the pay at pumps require a minimum of £100 on the card, which often ain't there on the card I use for small payments.
I expect most petrol stations will end up kiosk and cashless, which will be a shame because I quite like the human interaction and a chance to buy something else, but I'm an old dinosaur.

When in South Korea I had a station near me that was back to the 70s - drive in, out runs a man or woman and they fill the car, you hand them your card and they do the transaction while besides your car window.......off you go.

Was bloody marvellous.

Know that road well.

As a lad living near Shrewsbury in the 80's I tried to pay with my first bank card, the proprietor held it up like a week old fish !

Every pay at pump I have ever used always needed the PIN and card inserted before it would activate the pump. Never seen contact less pay at pump.

Pics-Pica must have some tank on his bike too!

Clarification: I was referring to PIN requirements at desk payments (of course). The £100 limit does not discriminate among vehicle types !
