Hi All,

Hope you're well.

It's time to change cars and I'm looking at the earliest 2021 M4 Coupes onwards. The very first ones seem to have dipped under £50k for good, low mileage main dealer cars, mostly RWD for that price.

As per the title really, is it better to go for an xDrive car or is the RWD one favoured?

I'm not ideologically minded...I'm just looking for the best drive. But also worried about resale...am I going to be stuck in three years time when everyone wants the xDrive one. Or maybe the non-xDrive will be the 'purists' preference, and we'll all lament (like manual g/b) the loss of rear wheel drive..,or wax lyrical about the lighter RWD car!! Funny old lot, petrol heads wink

I live in Hampshire so not much adverse weather to deal with really. Reviews seem to be mixed. Wondered what owners thought?

Thanks,
J.

X-drive everytime.
The car most of the time will be in rwd anyway...only when you exceed certain parameters [1] does the xdrive engage and send excess torque to the front wheels..
[1] most usually when traction is being lost at the rear wheels.
If you want more jeopardy then switch off the xdrive and go rwd only.

I’ve driven both for a couple of hours each and thought the X drive was better to drive (without even considering the all weather ability). They were 2wd only from launch, since the x drive was launched most buyers specced X drive. That said the 2wd seems much cheaper secondhand (the premium new was less than £3k so arguably a bargain but they seem to take longer to sell so may cost you when you come to sell.

I'd go xDrive as well, and they are the best of both worlds for me. RWD only fun in the summer should you wish, and a bit more 4WD surefootedness over the winter months when the roads are wet/cold.

I love my F82 M4 don't get me wrong, but it is pretty much useless over the winter months, because you just can't get on the throttle much at all.
