2016 Mini Cooper Convertible manual 6 spd- recon box cost ?

Evening !
My wife has a 2016 MC ragtop, 100k miles but a regularly maintained car. Driving home yesterday and I could hear a grating/rattling noise from the underneath (sounded almost as if an exhaust shroud was rubbing against the prop). Pulled over and looked under car expecting to see a mangled piece of metal but nothing - then looked at n/s/f wheel and could see hydraulic/transmission fluid dripping on the floor.
AA guy came out and noticed a small hole in what looks like an end cap/plug on the side of the gearbox and fluid leaking out. It's like a small rectangular hole ...he reckoned something may have let go inside the unit maybe and caused it but looking at it again we both thought the shape of the hole looked a too 'regular' to be trauma-caused, has a seal popped off it?
I drove it a short distance with him (hundred yards) - all gears worked but it sounded like a bag of nails so switched off and parked up. Suspect the box might be toast given the noises. It's been recovered to a local garage, assuming the worst does anyone know what a recon box would set us back/best place to source one from ? Any suggestions (and observations on the fault/similar issue experienced) welcomed.
